Sounds reasonable to me...
Trying to put our politics aside, I would hope that if Tim O'Brien were Mayor and he tried to sell city property to one of his family members in Colchester that we would speak up and demand he NOT touch it with a 10 foot poll.
It was predicted after Wednesday's Council meeting that before the week was out, Editor James Smith would sensationalize the land purchase by the Mayor's uncle. Sure as Arctic snow, the vindictive Herald editor did just that. He was probably ticked off that he had to cover the meeting because James Craven is gone from the Herald.
In addition Smith only published negative comments about the sale from Aldermen Carlozzi, Sherwood and Centeno. These three spent time orchestrating their comments in the days before the meeting. Most of their comments could have been avoided with simple phone calls to the city assessor. All of their questions and comments were not germane to the resolution, any way. Of course, using phone calls, the three wouldn't have been able to put on their show for the public. It was as though the rest of the Council did not exist or made no comments. In the end, only the illustrious, Platosz, Sherwood and Centeno voted against the measure. The 4 Republicans and all the other Democrats (including Carlozzi, really!) acted responsibly and in favor of the City. The side show by Carlozzi, Sherwood (especially him) and Centeno went for naught.
"Sherwood attempted to besmirch the Mayor's reputations when he stated "The mayor should have stepped aside--the right thing for the mayor to step aside."
If Sherwood did as he calls it his due diligence, he wood know that the Mayor did just that; It's the Mayor's responsibility to receive proposals for purchase of city property; when he recieved this one he immediately gave the letter to another department to handle. Of course, due diligence would have revealed this fact and Sherwood would have lost an opportunity to rank on the Mayor.
"In today's Herald Staff writer James Smith wrote The Mayor is on Vacation, but all he did was accept the letter and forwarded it to the council." WOW! Some in depth reporting, don't you think! I called it irresponsible.
"Sherwood should Publicly apologize for his making his false accusation against Mayor Stewart.

Is this anything like Catazanro voting on his own union contract, or Catanzaro voting on an issue where he has a personal interest--in violation of the city charter and punishable by removal from office, and even after a unanimous bi-partisan decision by the Ethics Commission calling for the council to act on this violation, Sherwood and Trueworthy refused to act? This was such a disgrace that the former 6 term Democratic mayor resigned from his position as Chairman of the Ethics Commission in protest, and now Sherwood is the champion of ethics again???
What a crock of bull!

Let the almighty Sherwood put up or shut up and deliver a buyer willing to pay the city more than the $10,000 this guy has agreed to pay for a parcel that the tax assessor says isn't worth half what the guy is willing to pay for it.
Come on Mr. Sherwood, produce a buyer with a bigger offer!

Personally, I am surprised it passed.
