Groton, Conn. — Pfizer Inc. plans to lay off hundreds of employees as its Groton and New London, CT research and development facilities over the next 18 months, Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut President and CEO Tony Sheridan said.
Sheridan said he was given the word by company executives and expects Pfizer to announce a cut in its Eastern Connecticut workforce of up to 1,100 jobs later in the day.
Gov. Malloy Statements on Massive Pfizer Lay-off of 1,100 employees.
This is never the kind of news you want to hear. While this location will remain the largest research site in North America, and some units affected will be relocated within the region, my heart goes out to the employees who lost their jobs. There is no clearer evidence that we need to get our economy moving again than witnessing a large Connecticut employer laying off their workers and moving their business elsewhere, stated Gov. Malloy.
The very fact that one of our state's largest and strongest employers is laying off over 1,000 employees and moving jobs next door is proof that Connecticut is an unfriendly place to do business.
Each of these 1,100 should thank the Democrats for destroying their jobs!
Taxes! Democrats don't pay no sxtinkin' taxes!
