New Britain's DTC Kills Trueworhty's Hopes in Becoming Mayor

I guess Trueworthy will have to accept that he has been screwed out of the mayor's office by his own party.

Too bad little Mike.

Better luck in 2 years!

Sherwood was Gerra-nutjob's campaign manager, so does that mean there is a break up in the love fest between Sherwood and Trulyworthless?

THE 6th DISTRICT MEDIA : Former New Britain Alderman Phil Sherwood, who co-managed Terry Gerratana's campaign, offered some comments on the Gerratana campaign. "It was an extraordinary campaign. I've never seen a candidate for State Senate work harder than Terry, never," Sherwood said. "I believe the voters saw that."

Also, Jon Green, Executive Director of the Connecticut Working Families Party, which endorsed Gerratana, said, Her win is a victory for the idea that voters want leaders who are more concerned with the needs of ordinary working-class families than the desires of well-connected political insiders . ( Aldermen Bernacki and Pabon )

Terry Gerratana's victory means the 6th District remains in Democratic hands. Democrat Donald DeFronzo won a long series of re-elections before he resigned in January to become the State's Commissioner of Administrative Services in the Malloy Administration.

HARTFORD — Seeking to help the poor who might be hurt by his upcoming budget, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will propose an earned income tax credit that would be the first in Connecticut history.

The tax would provide a maximum of nearly $1,700 for poor, working-class families that earn below $21,500 per year. Families with three or more children that earn as much as $48,000 per year could still be eligible for a reduced credit that would be far below the maximum.

The credit has been highly controversial and has never been enacted by the legislature because of opposition by Republicans and some fiscally conservative Democrats. The opponents have rejected the concept as a fatally flawed plan that gives tax breaks to people who do not pay state income taxes.

NEW BRITAIN — With Republicans still stung by Mayor Timothy Stewart's defeat in the state Senate election, city council members exchanged bitter attacks in a debate over a Democratic move to temporarily ban the administration from giving what Democrats called "no-bid contracts."

The vote failed narrowly when several Democrats broke ranks and sided with Republicans in voting down the measure. Republicans condemned the Democratic majority for pressing the measure, saying it smeared GOP council members Willie Pabon and Mark Bernacki, who own local businesses that have gotten city contracts.

Council members engaged in a testy back-and-forth for more than 45 minutes, debating whether the controversy was a political ploy aimed at derailing Stewart's Senate campaign.

Democrats said the perception of political favoritism makes it essential for New Britain to freeze all no-bid contracts to elected officials until the city learns whether the chief state's attorney's office has found wrongdoing in the way contracts were awarded.

Finance Director Robert Curry told the council that there weren't any no-bid contracts. He said his staff put out requests for price quotes to 16 vendors on every job that Bernack's Sir Speedy franchise has won. He said the city receives at least three quotes before awarding a job.

The DTC should also kill Trueworthy's hopes in being re-elected to the Council. It's bad enough he's trying to blacklist Mark Bernacki and Willie Pabon from doing business with the city, but there is no reason he had to trash Finance Chairman Curry. His little temper tantrum at the council meeting show us what a brat he is.
