Crying Baby Number "Three"

The Honorable Chris Murphy: Via Email

Unfortunately, one of our council Alderman Louis Salvio (R) admiringly claimed he blew the whistle and HUD took the money away.

It originated with a complaint he filed with the Hud Agency claiming three Democratic Aldermen were in a conflict of interest regarding HRA agency and Federal Funding. When in reality two abstain from voting and the third was absent from attendance of the meeting in question.

HUD did investigate and cited two Republican Commissioners with a conflict of interest and withdrew a sum totaling $264,248 affecting eight of the city’s agencies.

With the onslaught of winter arriving Heat, Food, and children’s clothing are the priority for the poor in our city but the funds remain with HUD.

At the New Britain Council Meeting this past Wednesday two distinguished individual from The Spanish Speaking Center and The Salvation Army spoke of the need for food, winter clothing for the poor and heating. Unfortunately, they did not mention the large sum for this purpose is sitting at the HUD office in Hartford, Ct.

I am respectfully requesting that you devote the necessary time in order to have HUD release these extremely needed funds in order that our poor can survive this winter with sufficient food, heat, and clothing.
Sincerely,

Frank Smith

Lou: Think about the children being cold and hungry and trying to sleep at night; because you blew the "whistle".

Residents: If you are concered about the adversities the poor are going through because of Alderman Salvio's actions please call Rep. Murphy at 860-223-8412 or 202-225-4476 and plead with him to get HUD to release the funds for the city's poor.

  3. I hope this big shot feels really proud of himself sleeping in his nice warm bed with the knowledge that many poor children are going to bed hungry or cold because he blocked the money meant to help the poor people of New Britain with heating assistance and food. I hope he feels like a big man for this and my heart goes out to the children who will suffer as the result of Mr. Salvio's childish games. This is one of the most despicable acts I have yet to hear regarding this jerk.

  10. Maybe he is working with his buddy Bozek to help push his agenda of ridding New Britain of poor people. Cut off the funding for their assistance and you force them out of town. Think I am off the mark? Cut off their money for food and heating fuel, don't they have to go somewhere else?

  11. Yes, the municipal elections are a year away. But the momentum that is now being demonstrated with voter registration will change the dynamics of local politics for the next election and more after.

Thousands of new Democrats will have registered since Aug of 06 by the time next years municipal elections heat up in New Britain alone. This will all matter in next years muni election. Mathematically, a democrat sweep in New Britain is much more possible and perhaps even probable.

The ramifications will be huge from having so many progressive young people in the electoral process. The self inflicted damage done to the republican brand in the eyes of the young and independent voters will not trickle away any time soon, even if Obama, 2 or 4 years from now, is seen as a flop. I trust he won't but that's not my point.

For those who complain about democratic dominance in cities like New Britain. Close your eyes, it's just may get a lot worse.

  14. It sounds like someone is assuming that Obama is going to win. The latest breakdown I saw on the news showed it to be virtually impossible for Obama to win if he loses Pennsylvania and as of last night 3 polling services had it either a dead heat or within 1 point. All McCain needs is for Murtha to make a few more comments about the racist rednecks in PA and it is over for Obama. That is why the Governor made a desperate plea for Obama to return to PA to do more campaigning in a desperate attempt to turn it around. By today McCain is expected to be in the lead in PA, and McCain can still count on Biden to say something stupid between now and the election. That is a mathematical certainty that Biden will shoot off his mouth again. The Republicans have Salvio and the Democrats have Biden.

  15. It was after the 9/11 attacks when the stock market took a huge hit, but who was it that helped the markets come back and make huge gains in 7 years? It was president Bush along with a Republican controlled congress.

Obama likes to bash the President, but if you will go back and look, Obama became a millionaire, along with many other regular people while Bush has been in office.

It was only when the Dems had their hands in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, then won back a majority in congress that this mess started to catch up with us.

We were warned by some responsible minded folks in Congress, and by president Bush, but the warnings didn't make it past the liberal media for us to hear it.

  16. From the CT Sec of States Office:

Secretary of the State's Electronic Newsletter
    Issue 28, October 24, 2008
SURGE OF NEW VOTERS VAULTS CONNECTICUT PAST 2 MILLION VOTER MARK
A surge in new voter registrations has pushed the total number of registered voters in Connecticut to over 2,000,000 – one of the highest such figures in state history. Specifically, since January 1st of this year, nearly 220,000 Connecticut residents have become newly registered voters.

As of October 15th the total number of registered voters in Connecticut is 2,021,749. The largest group of registered voters in Connecticut is unaffiliated, accounting for 845,311 voters. There are 750,999 registered Democrats and 418,531 registered Republicans.

Since the beginning of this year, 217,126 Connecticut residents have become newly registered voters. Of those, 92,752 new voters have registered as Democrats, compared to 28,652 new Republican voters and 94,342 new unaffiliated voters. In the first half of October, nearly 50,000 new voters had registered for the November general election.

Once again, young people in Connecticut between the ages of 18 and 29 continue to be the largest group of new voters registering for the November 4th election. Since January 1st, some 91,485 young people have become newly registered voters. Of those new younger voters, 39,392 have registered as Democrats 9,959 have registered with the Republican Party and 41,504 have signed up as unaffiliated.

All indicators are pointing towards a record turnout on Election Day November 4th and young people are leading the way. Cities across Connecticut such as Torrington, Danbury, Manchester, New Haven, Bridgeport, Norwich and many others are experiencing much heavier requests for absentee ballots in 2008 than they did for our last presidential election in 2004. I fully expect that we could see a voter turnout figure of 90% of registered voters on November 4th and we may even break the all-time Connecticut record of 93% set in 1960.

  25. if Acorn was involved, divide those numbers by 72 and you come up with about 2 dozen new voters, and by the way even the Democrats know where to go for true leadership. Democrats outnumber Republicans in New Britain by about 5 to 1, and we have a Republican Mayor. We have also had a Republican Governor for something like 16 years. The last one went to federal prison, and we still elected another Republican who was part of his administration, so what makes you think that McCain won't win in Connecticut the same way Ronald Reagan did even though the polls predicted a landslide for Dukakis?

  29. At a restaurant in the greater New Britain area our waiter had on a "Obama 08" tie, again we all laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came - we all decided not to tip the server and explained to him that we were exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept.

He stood there in disbelief while we told him that we were going to redistribute his tip to someone who we deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside the restaurant. The server angrily stormed from our sight.

We went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 bill and told him to thank the server inside as We've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of our rather unscientific redistribution experiment we realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that we gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved the money more.

We figured that the redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in a practical application.

  30. Alderman Salvio proves that he is against feeding the poor with his vote against providing a food panty serving the need of the poor at the Osgood Park pool, on a temporary basis with his vote against it.

The HUD monies have not been returned to the city because he filed the complaint with the department of HUD.

Good Going Alderman Salvio your true colors against the poor in this city are very similar to your close friend’s approach the former Senator Bozek.

  32. GET READY FOR THE MCCAIN PALIN VICTORY!!!
Again, the polls predicted a massive landslide for John Kerry, Al Gore and even Mike Dukakis. Anyone ever hear of Presidents Gore, Dukakis or Kerry???? Every poll since 1976 has predicted the Democrat would win, Ronald Reagan was supposed to lose by double digits and won 49 out of 50 states. Stop drinking the kool-aid and get ready for a massive McCain Palin victory, especially when your own polls predict that as much as 1/3 of your DEMOCRATIC party has racial problems voting for a minority. You will never know what happens when they go into that little booth, but considering that McCain is leading in the most important of the battle ground states (Florida, Ohio, and now Pennsylvania) this is one deal that Obama just can't close! If Obama can't get Pennsylvania and Florida, it becomes a mathematical impossibility for him! The latest Karl Rove electoral map shows MCCain with a probable 293 to Obama's 255 and Obama is dropping like a brick with his SPREAD THE WEALTH AROUND SOCIALISM and Biden promising we will be attacked in the first six months of an Obama Presidency because the world knows he is an empty suit and it will appear to the world that is response will have been wrong, but we need you to stick with him and it will become clear that in the long run his approach will turn out to have been right. Your waiter will be able to send his tie to a museum along with the John Kerry memorabilia.

  48. People are the product of their choices. If they make poor choices they will receive poor consequences in return.

I am all for helping the truly “poor” of our community, but to force the resources I have worked hard for and give them to the lazy is extortion.

Being a drunk and/or drug abuser doesn’t make one “disable”, it makes one foolish. Being a woman who has unprotected sex with every bloke that crosses her path (and having illegitimate children) doesn’t make her poor, it makes her a slut. These types of people are the product of the liberal class where “anything goes” even at the expense of the working class who by the way are having trouble making both ends meet.

If the “poor” people are the elderly or disable then I am all for helping them out provided they are willing to show they are truly needy.

Why allow the so called “poor” to double dip into the resources we provided? So they can sell/trade them in for more alcohol and drugs at less than half the value?

How about we survey these so called poor people and quantify the results? This way we can use these results to regulate the distribution of the resources based on the greatest need.

Everyone should feel encouraged to call Alderman Salvio at 225-9992 and tell him how you feel not only about him voting against the food pantry, but being threatened or made to feel intimidated about calling your elected official because he has caller ID and will know who you will. You should feel free to call him if you want, and feel free to tell him your name, and then tell him what you think of his vote. As long as he is your Alderman, you can call him about city business and don't let him intimidate you against letting him know your opinion. He is your elected representative, and it is about time he acted like one. Call him if you like, and with the threats of caller ID, I would take that as a challenge for everyone to call him. Tell him your name and address then there won't be any question who you are, and then tell him your opinion. If he doesn't like to have to answer to his constituents, then he should give up the job and let someone have it who will do the job. This is a perfect reason to vote in favor of the constitutional convention, and then demand that the convention pass a recall by petition for elected officials just like they have in California. Then we can hold elected officials accountable or have the ability to get rid of them through a petition. If we had that ability now, people like Salvio would be gone. Does anyone doubt we would be able to get enough signatures on a petition abainst Lou Salvio? So vote for the Constitutional Convention and when it passes, we will fight for an amendment to allow for petition recall of all elected officials in the state. It is about time that self serving politicians like Lou Salvio are held accountable to the people they are supposed to be representing. California threw a governor out of office because he wasn't listening to the people. It is about time we had that right here in Connecticut.

Obama calls it a tax refund for people who never paid a dime in taxes. It has just become public that Obama plans to give 14 million illegal aliens social security benefits. As Nancy Pelosi put it, "they deserve to have the same quality of life as the rest of Americans do in retirement." Obama has also said he plans to outlaw 401k plans and replace them with a government program, because no one should be allowed to have more wealth than anyone else does in retirement. Didn't Karl Marx have similar ideas? If Obama gets his way, we will all begin to pay more for those drug addicts, alcoholics and "sluts" that the earlier poster dislikes so much so get ready to work overtime so you can pay more taxes and be what Joe Biden calls a Patriot by paying more taxes.

    ReplyDelete
  82. quote from earlier "REMEMBER THIS IS THE GUY WHO VOTED TO END FUNDING FOR THE FOOD PANTRY. I'll bet he ate well tonight!
    SHAME
    SHAME
    SHAME Mr. distinguished Alderman.
    "

Get your facts straight, what he actually voted against was putting the food pantry in a park. He did not vote against the food panty or funding, he simply stated that things like this do not belong in the parks. Much like a few years back and the cell tower in Stanley Quarter park, these are our parks, and regardless of whether there is land or buildings available, things like this dont belong in the park. What happens next year if they want to open the pool? Well, now the pool house is full and we cant. I am sure then you will all be telling people to call Alderman Salvio and complain about their kids having no where to swim.

  83. When the elderly find out they are not getting their free winter coats this year all because of this jerk, they should call this idiot and let him know how mad they are, or better yet, maybe they should call the mayor and ask him to pay for them since it is his good buddy who stopped the funding for them!!!
