  1. New Britain’s Fire Chief Mark Carr announced receiving a Federal Grant from the Emergency Management Agency for the sum of $70,000.

This will provide nine new thermal imaging cameras for the city’s front line pumpers and ladders.

Not only will these new devices help with saving lives but will provide help for the fireman in determining where the hot spots are smoldering and very hard to detect while fighting a fire.

Chief Carr must be commended for seeking this federal grant for these cameras that not only protects the public, within at a fire scene, but also protects the firemen themselves.

  2. New Britain Firemen deserve to have the best equipment possible. I am glad to see them get some support.

  3. Thanks to Fire Chief Mark Carr for seeing that new Thermal Imaging Cameras were purchased to assist in saving lives during fires. Cost is of little consequence compared to the saving of human lives.

  4. Just another fine example of the excellent leadership under the Stewart Administration!

Keep up the fine job Chief Carr and Mayor Stewart!

  5. I think that Tim Stewart is a great leader. I would like to see him run for Governor when Jodi Rell is ready to retire. We need his style of leadership under the Gold Dome.

  6. How did Tim Stewart contribute to this Aid? didn't FEMA give the fire department the money? What is his connection?

  7. How did Tim Stewart contribute to this Aid? didn't FEMA give the fire department the money? What is his connection?----must be a Democrat because he is so lost!

The Mayor is the Chief Executive of the City. Fire Chief Carr serves at the pleasure of Mayor Stewart and follows the Mayor's direction.

Chief Carr arranges a federal grant to buy equipment. Does anyone believe that little old Mark Carr can do something like this on his own authority? As a matter of fact, the Chief Executive of the city (Mayor Stewart) must sign the grant request, so when Chief Carr gets "free money" to buy equipment, that reflects directly on Mayor Timothy Stewart.

Although Tim would be a great Governor, New Britain can't afford to lose him to the state.

  10. God help us all if Tim Stewart should ever leave office. What will we end up with, another Dumbocrat in the mayor's office? Please Mr. Mayor, don't do that to us, please, please, please!

Why shouldn't he be able to?
or is this supposed to be a check and balance thing?

Because Chief Carr lacks the legal authority to sign grant requests on behalf of the City of New Britain, only Mayor Stewart has that legal authority. Can you imagine the chaos if each department head could go around signing agreements that bind the city of New Britain?
