EDITORIAL
IT IS VERY CONCERNING TO ME THAT MANY OF THE COMMENTS MADE BY THOSE WHO WISH TO PROTECT THE ACTIONS OF ALDERMAN PAUL CATANZARO OVER HIS CONFLICT VOTES ON THE CITY COUNCIL PLEASE BE REMINDED OF THE FOLLOWING:
1 Recall when he voted on the New Britain Restaurant resolution even after his own boss, at the city agency where the alderman works, spoke against the choice the democrats were about to vote. He voted.
2 When he proposed a resolution to eliminate Undertakers from serving on the cemetery commission and when it was time to vote he was warned by the Mayor to not vote on this issue because his boss is the chairperson of the Cemetery commission. He insisted on voting and did vote.
3. This past council meeting when the council voted its infamous 13-2 vote by not accepting the recommendation of the Ethics commission regarding the Catanzaro issue guess what? -----Catanzaro voted--- he was one of the 13 affirmative votes.
As I was advised by an anonymous poster that I should review the city’s charter like he apparently did and found no violations of any votes by the council members.
Well. I do not need a charter or a ruling to know when a conflict occurs and the three aforementioned certainly rises to the need for the State to visit our city and investigate ethical disregard to public policy by this alderman and the protection being bestowed by his fellow alderman claiming he is right and never committed the violations of the Ethics policy of the city charter. And that include Mr. Ethics--Adlderman Sherwood who was one of the 13 votes tha gave support to Alderman Catanzaro.
That the city's Ethics commission voted and recommended to have the council issue a reprimand to this alderman.
Good Public policy be dammed----- is the way the Democrats operate on the council.

ReplyDeleteFrank. More than anyone else, you have chronicled Catanzaro's ethical lapses and ineptitude. Without a doubt, Catanzaro has proven that he is incapable of making sound and rational judgments about his boundaries as an employee of the city vis a vis his ethical responsibilities as an alderman, his irrational comments to fellow employees, his boss and fellow Council members. Because of his apparent lack of good judgment, he was partially responsible for the City's Human Resources Agency being denied certain funding for some of its ongoing projects. He's a disgrace to the office of Alderman.
Impeach Paul Cantanzaro from the Council and furthermore fire him
ReplyDeletefrom his city job with Parks & Rec.
Be done with this once and for all.
CATANZARO VOTING TO REJECT HIS OWN ETHICS VIOLATION IS SIMILAR TO A SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE HEARING HIS OWN CRIMINAL TRIAL AND THEN FINDING HIMSELF NOT GUILTY.
ReplyDeleteIF THIS DOESN'T RISE TO THE LEVEL OF IMPEACHABLE OFFENSES, THEN WHAT WOULD?
THE MAYOR SHOULD BE IN CONTACT WITH THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE, AND THE GOVERNOR TO BE DRAFTING ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT.
REMOVAL FROM OFFICE IS THE ONLY THING THAT COULD POSSIBLY RESTORE PUBLIC TRUST IN THE OFFICE OF ALDERMAN.
Section 4.7 of the City Charter, however, specifically disallows a vote by a member when there is a monetary or personal interest.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the section, “No member of the Common Council shall be heard to speak upon, nor shall be allowed to vote upon, nor shall be appointed a member of any committee to consider, any matter in which the member has a direct pecuniary interest. Any violation of this provision shall be grounds for expulsion of any member violating the same.”
IMPEACH! Here is your authority to begin immediate impeachment proceedings Mr. Mayor.
IMPEACH, NOW!
