This council is a joke. One day they argue that we should always take the lowest bid, then the next day against it....
There are a number of Connecticut printers who could have performed this job. The real question should be if they were fairly allowed to bid on the job and if they chose not too, then that is the way it goes. But Alderman Adam Platocs makes a valid point about it making sense to hire a local printer even if the price is somewhat higher. If you are buying them from a New Britain company that is providing jobs and paying taxes in the city, does that not make sense for everyone?
Adam Platoz was the council member that was concerned about where Jordan's Caterers would be getting their hotdogs for the golf course too. He made a rude comment maybe from China with Jordans representives present at our council meeting. I think we all agree that keeping business local is in the best interest of the local economy but to what end? Local printers can be as much as triple the cost. Why? because local businesses have much higher overhead and taxes in CT. I hope
the job is done well in Tennessee.
At least the job is being done in
this country.

Local printer, Alderman Mark Bernacki explained quite correctly why he and perhapsothers didn't bid on the printing job for the Park Department, to wit, he knew he wouldn't be able to compete with bids from larger printing firms. he was correct. Case closed.
The Jordan Caterers issue was a completely different issue not handled by the Purchasing Dept.
Can you just imagine the shape Stanley Works would have been in if people from out of state, not to mention out of the country, would have been in, if these out of staters didn't purchase their products? Why should it be different for using an out of state printing company?
This is the best that jimmy craven can come up with for covering the
council meeting?What about the ethics issue that night,or the debate on the city auditor.The herald was baled out to serve the community,Kick it up a notch Craven

They have very little for taxes and almost no government intervention in their business in Tennessee. It would be great to have these printed here locally. Unfortunately as you stated our liberal state legislature has made it impossible to do business in state.
Calling out an alderman's comments during a town council meeting is hardly nasty.
Let’s play “imagine if” for a second...
Imagine if:
Alderman Bernacki's print shop won the bid
Any local print shop won the bid at 2-3 times the lowest bid
Alderman Bernacki voted on anything that might benefit himself or his business
If any of these scenarios had happened Sheriff Sherwood would pull up his boots and strap on his six shooters, pin his badge on his shirt then he would call his posse of merry men.
Look I like Alderman Platoc, his involvement in city government is commendable. I however do not need to agree with everything he does or like everyone he associates with.
The democratic leadership in New Britain has taken a hostile approach to governing. They seem to disregard that although there is a large difference in democrat versus republican registered voters there is in fact a probably 50/50 percentage of liberal versus conservative.
Somehow the democrats have veered far left and that is scary. I want to ask again for Mr. McNamara to call off the attack dogs. Let’s get back to legislating.
Mr. Platocs I agree it is not good for local governments to have to go out of state for printing services. You need to ask your fellow party members what caused that. Here is a hint it was not former President Bush.
These are the same people who complained when W. Pabon (New Britain Fence Co. owner) received a contract to construct a fence at Pinacle Heights...then complained when a lower bidder received the bid to construct the fence at Fairview Cemetary (Pabon a NB business owner was the 2nd lowest bidder). The only consistency here is that some Aldermen complain about everything and argue out of both sides of their depending on who they want to bash today.
I THINK WE ALL PREFERRED WHEN PHONY PHIL SIGNED HIS NAME TO HIS POSTS, BUT HE HAS BEEN HIDING UNDER "ANONYMOUS" EVER SINCE HE RENEGED ON HIS PROMISE TO SHARE THE AMOUNT OF UNCOLLECTED CAR TAXES. ONE THING IS FOR CERTAIN, PHONY PHIL SHERWACK AND HIS TRULY WORTHLESS HENCHMEN ARE REALLY DOING A NUMBER ON ALDERMAN PLATOCZ SIMPLY BECAUSE HE ASKED A LEGITIMATE QUESTION ABOUT GIVING THE JOB TO A LOCAL CONTRACTOR. WOULD PHONY PHIL AND HIS DISCIPLES BE AS UPSET IF THE JOB WERE GOING TO MR. SPANO, A LONGTIME MEMBER OF THE DEMOCRATIC TOWN COMMITTEE? NO, I WOULD THINK NOT. THE ONLY REASON THEY ARE SO UPSET IS THAT ADAM MADE THE SUGGESTION THAT MIGHT HAVE HAD THE JOB GO TO A REPUBLICAN BUSINESSMAN, EVEN IF HE IS THE ONLY ONE IN TOWN THAT COULD DO THE JOB. ADAM, KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS AND YOU WILL FIND OUT WHAT KIND OF NUT JOBS YOU ARE AFFILIATED WITH! IT IS ABOUT TIME ONE OF YOU 13 DID THE JOB YOU WERE ELECTED TO DO FOR THE PEOPLE, AND STOPPED BEING A PUPPET FOR THE LUNATIC FRINGE THAT RUNS THE PARTY. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ADAM!
