CITY OF NEW BRITAIN ALDERMEN TAX DELINQUENT HALL OF SHAME!

As of March 4, 2009

1. Alderman Lori A. Rocha: $813.78

2. Alderman Rolando “Roy” Centeno: $537.51

3. Alderman Tonilynn Collins: $348.93

4. Alderman Paul D. Catanzaro: $227.72

One thing we all know for sure is that the Democrats on the city council love to spend other people’s money! They love to find ways to raise your taxes and ways to give your hard earned money away to other people, people that they seem to believe deserve your money more than you do, even though you worked hard to earn it. One thing at least four of them doesn’t seem to like doing is paying their own taxes!

The four tax delinquents shown above are on the tax collector’s delinquency list for motor vehicles. Could this be why they were so opposed to the plate finder system that the Chief of Police is using to catch citizens who have delinquent taxes on their cars? Maybe they were afraid of the embarrassment involved in getting caught by the police department’s new plate finder vehicle, so they opposed such a valuable tool that was badly needed to potentially collect millions in unpaid taxes, just to avoid the public finding out that they don’t pay their own taxes.

When your aldermen, who are sworn to uphold the law, don’t pay their taxes, then why should anyone else pay theirs? Maybe that is a question we should all ask these four on Election Day?

  1. There could be no better day, than tax day, while all the protests are underway across the country, to expose these tax cheats for what they really are.

These 4 Alderman should be ashamed of themselves, but as we have learned on the national level, Democrats seem to have no shame!

If the lawmakers get away with not paying their taxes, why should the rest of us pay?

  3. Isn't it unethical to not pay your taxes? Where is Ethics Czar Phony Phil Sherwack to go after these elected tax cheats?

Frank: Three out of the four you mentioned work for the city. Roy Centeno and his wife both work for the school department - some example they set for their constituents. As for Catanzaro, wasn't this why he was brought before the ethics board ? He was trying to save money for the city -what a joke! Then, all 13 Dems vote to give him a pass. What a sorry group are these Dems. Speak Sherwood, speak! Sherwood talks about voodoo - nobody does it better than the Council Dems. And Tim O'Brien says the Dems can make New Britain better. What do you think?

  5. So, ~25% of our Council (if this is true) don't pay their taxes on time? This is actually shocking to me! We apparently need an ordinance that says if you are not current you can not serve. Perhaps another ordinance about having some common sense may help us as well.

Alderman Lopes kept his tort off the books until caught. I guess theses guys missed the meeting on how to beat the system.

And these guys voted on ethics enhancements????? My God.

Our voters need to have this in front of them if this is a validated fact. Sounds like the old "Do as I say, not as I do" mentality.

    Thank you.

Phil (just the information mam) Sherwood’s silence in the past few weeks, aside from dismissing the proposed town budget out of hand, speaks volumes.
There is only one thing that could possibly be keeping him so occupied. That would be the absent state rep Tim (I wanna shake your hand) O’Brien’s run at the Mayoral seat.
No doubt he is POW WOWING with Chairman (you don’t want to be on my wall of shame) McNamara as we speak.
Consider that Tim O'Brien has not been seen in weeks, Phil Sherwood has been as silent as a cat stalking its prey, Chairman Mac has not issued an edict to the remainng cabooses (because they follow so well) on the council.
My money is on an October Surprise. Beware the squirrels over at CCAG and its gang of “acorn” want to be’s

Meanwhile back at the ranch: No alternate budget, no movement on Paul (I haven’t seen An ethics rule I can’t break) Catanzaro. Only missed commission attendance and missed tax payments for our favorite spores.
Maybe we can get (there’s a new sheriff in town) Gerrantano to get them to both pay their taxes and to show up at meetings.
Folks we are watching and waiting for you all to do some work. Please begin work on the pressing needs of our community. Let’s get this budget done.

  7. The voters need to take serious notice. they work for the city and get those huge salaries and benefits like free health insurance, vacation, sick and holiday pay, and a pension plan second to none, ALL AT YOUR EXPENSE, and then they can't pay a few hundred dollars in property taxes, but they expect you to pay yours. What is wrong with this picture?

  9. on July 1st, when the next payment is due, why don't we all send the tax collector a note that says when she collects from all the aldermen, then we will be happy to pay our taxes?

  12. With the economy spiraling out of control many people are facing financial difficulties; yes, even elected officials. Being late on your tax bills comes with a hefty 18% interest penalty.

If anyone is interested in running for the common council both the democratic and republican parties will be forming slates SOON.

Obviously, "anonymous" can't be placed on the ballots. Anyone interested in running with the republican team can contact me at either 826-1798 or 223-8995.

Join the process. Get involved. Help turn words into ACTION.

    Good luck.

Hey Frank - you didn't go far enough. I guess you didn't include in your list of Council members who are in arears on taxes, those that pay no real estate or personal property taxes in NB. Also, why not check and see which of out state legislators pay real estate or personal property taxes? You may be surprised! According to Tim O'Brien, Dems can make NB better - Yeah, right!

    Mr. Bernacki,
How about submitting an ordinance that requires that if an elected official is delinquent on city taxes, that the delinquent payment must be deducted from his city paycheck for his elected position. Although 3 of these individuals also work for the city and receive a huge salary and excellent benefits package, I understand you can't deduct taxes from their pay checks from their jobs, mainly because of union issues. There should be no reason why you can't withhold an elected official's pay check due to unpaid taxes owed by that official, especially when that official swore an oath to uphold the law.

  15. This November: vote for NONE OF THE ABOVE

  16. Because the bills for motor vehicle taxes are delinquent, each of the aldermen will be prohibited from paying by check. A person with delinquent motor vehicle taxes, or those who are registering a vehicle with the Department of Motor Vehicles and require a release from the tax collector, must pay with cash, money order or a certified bank check.

WHO WOULD TAKE A CHECK FROM ANY OF THESE LOSERS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES?

  17. When asked about the four members of the Common Council, Sherwood, who is a frequent judge of his Republican counterparts, said he would not judge the four Democrats.

This just exemplifies what a total phony Sherwood is. If this were one of the Republicans, you wouldn't be able to shut him up, but because it is his fellow socialists, he has nothing to say.

It is obvious that to Phil Sherwack, ethics only apply to Republicans, while Democrats are free to break the law all they want with impunity.

  18. The 4 members of the council who are in arrears of their taxes can thank Phil Sherwood, because of his FOI proposals...thanks Mr. Sherwood...you helped the Herald get the info on your not-so-perfect council colleagues which is now shared with the good citizens of New Britain...:)

  19. This November let us all, democrats, republicans, and independents, give Tim Stewart a team of alderpersons that he can work with and bring back accountable and intelligent government. Vote for Tim Stewart and his TEAM.
