Democrats propose largest tax hikes ever

  1. So the blame game begins. Massive tax increases, higher property taxes, elimination of the property tax deduction, Gerogosian cuts $1M from New Britain and gives it to Bristol, and NO SPENDING REDUCTIONS. You mean to tell me the state wouldn't be better off without Rick Lopes, Greg Gerratana, and Phil Sherwood roaming the capitol?

    Pa-leeze.

  2. What would you expect? The theme of the Democratic party is to seize your assets through higher taxes and to give your hard earned money to people that some liberal like Defronzo believes deserves your money more than you do. Just keep voting for the Democrats and watch your life savings disappear before your eyes!

  3. Over 70% of the Connecticut economy is generated from small businesses employing 9 or less workers. DeFronzo et al want to tack a 30% "temporary" tax of top of the high taxes already paid? PLUS eliminate the property tax "credit"? PLUS raise college costs even further?

Remember when the business entity tax was a "temporary" tax when the state ran short 7 years ago?

The last business to leave PLEASE turn off the lights!

  4. Gingrich Warns of Conservative 3rd Party in 2012
    Friday, April 3, 2009 8:53 AM

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich warns that conservatives could leave the GOP and form a third party in 2012 if Republicans don’t do more to rein in government spending.

“If the Republicans can’t break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012, Gingrich said during an address to students at the College of the Ozarks in Missouri.

Gingrich attacked President Barack Obama’s “monstrosity of a budget,” but acknowledged that Republicans are also to blame for the huge increase in federal spending, CNN reported.

“Remember, everything Obama’s doing, Bush started last year,” he said.

“If you’re going to talk about big spending, the mistakes of the Bush administration last year are fully as bad as the mistakes of Obama’s first two, three months.”

Gingrich predicted that “fed up” Americans will instigate a “nationwide rebellion at the polls,” and said the increased government spending under Obama is “literally irrational.”

For many years now, our New Britain State legislators, DeFronzo, O'Brien, Tercyak, Geragosian and Boukus (Democrats all) have been pushing a "millionaires tax." That didn't work so now they figure they will up the ante by starting at a lower level - $250K. They will raise taxes from the current 5% - according to income - all the way up to 7.5% at the max. Ten percent of the state's taxpayers, the "rich", now pay 90% of the income tax. Our legislators are pushing to make this even worse for the wealthy.
The result may be, forcing more of the state's milllionaires out of the state.
In addition these socialist Dems will raise the sales taxes on an ever increasing number of goods and services thus hurting the poor even more.
Conn. taxes its residents more than in any state in the union It also is one of the most "business unfriendly" states. Bona fide working class people are leaving CT while the number of residents on welfare continues to climb - do you see where this is going? The poor will become poorer while the "wealthy" will pay more in taxes to support the poor.
Then, businesses will move out of state and the state will lose more jobs, etc., etc., etc!
Don't forget, the Democrats control both houses of our state legislature. The labor unions control the Democrats, ergo, the labor unions control the state!
    What questions do you have?

  6. Dick Morris: Tedisco's Terrific Performance Spells Trouble for Obama

    By: Jim Meyers

Veteran political analyst Dick Morris tells Newsmax that the showing by Republican Jim Tedisco in Tuesday’s too-close-to-call special election in New York was “extraordinary.”

Morris also said that with Tedisco and Democrat Scott Murphy separated by less than 100 votes heading into the counting of absentee ballots, Tuesday’s result shows that President Barack Obama is already “in trouble.”

Geragosian - Chair of the State Legislature's Appropriations Committee - who has never held a real job, sees to it that NB loses $1million of the money that comes from the casinos while Bristol gets what was cut from New Britain. Well done John! Thanks for doing what you can for your home town. Where are you working these days, John?

  8. Funny thing happened on the way to the tax collector today! After the Democrats promised that there would be no new taxes on anyone making less than 250,000 dollars I couldn't convince:

The guy at the corner store that the new taxes couldn't be for me, I make only $30,000.

I also couldn't convince the gas station, or the licensing guy at city hall, or the utilities company, or my employer about the payroll tax he paid, or my insurance guy about the premium tax, or the guy raising the tolls on the New York expressway, or the guy at the hotel renting rooms, or the airline ticket sales person, or the guy who figured out my brothers severance pay, or the lady selling tickets at the amusement park, or the guy at the liquor store, or the...

All this and I haven’t even seen the price increases that the guys making 250,000 dollars a year is going to pass on to me. Gee it seems that I got bamboozled there really was a tax increase for me!

  9. Maybe Defronzo could hold the door open for all the businesses as they leave Connectcut for more tax friendly locations like Georgia.
