  4. In a statement supporting the Democratic budget plan, Representative O’Brien said the following:

"This budget makes the choice to be fair by asking the wealthiest people in the state - those with incomes over $500,000 a year - to contribute just a little more to be able to meet the important needs of our state."

This statement appears to once again create that all too familiar class warfare by giving the impression that they are only going to tax those damn rich people making over $500,000, but before deciding on this budget, please consider the following:

The Democratic budget contains a new tax on all business income that taxes all business profits at 25% and this does not only apply to income over $500,000, it applies to all business profits.

The Democratic budget increases the cigarette tax by 75 cents per pack, bringing the state tax on cigarettes to $2.75 per pack or $27.50 per carton.

The Democratic budget increases the fees for admission to state parks by an undisclosed amount.

The Democratic budget increases the license fees the state charges for all professional licenses and “other items” that have yet to be revealed to the public.

Governor Rell is correct in her statements that this budget would devastate Connecticut businesses and did the correct thing to veto it.

  5. How many months did it take O'Brien to decide to support this budget? He has been trying to decide for months whether to run for mayor, but just can't seem to make up his mind.

Maybe he had help deciding this one, since it is similar language that other Democrats and even the unions are using in their statements.

We need a mayor that has more to offer us than just boiler plate info, don't we?

  6. O'Brien is not trying to decide- he is waiting to see if Mayor Stewart runs again. He is only going to run if Mr Stewart does not. Write it down....

  7. In opposing the deal with the Hospital of Central Connecticut Garage Alderman Phil Sherwood was quoted in the New Britain Herald saying “WE HAVE THE POWER.”

Could it be that the Mayor is being driven to drink by his unlucky number 13?

    I agree!

  9. The Council had nothig to do with delaying the PH hearing until August 4th. Call the Mayor's office.

    Nobody is hiding anything.

  10. Is there a correlation between Wal*Mart closing in August and the postponement of the Public Hearing Delay of Pinnacle Heights Sale from July 7 to August 4?

    .......................................................

Phil Sherwood or Tim O'Brien must have come up with this one. Who else would be that stupid as to chase another business out of town to torpedo another of the Mayor's initiatives?? Ask your minority constituents, Phil and Tim, how do your people feel about losing 162 jobs?

I guess they'll just get more help from the welfare state. Too bad, most of those who work there were nice, helpful people.

  12. Sorry Frank, wrong again:

Termination of a lease does not require a public hearing. The only item coming up on July 7 is the sale of 121-131 Main St. See you there.
