Supreme Court rules for New Haven 20 | WTNH.com

  1. This should once and for all bring an end to affirmative action as any preference by race would violate the court's decision in this case. It is about time we judge candidates for jobs on their qualifications and no longer give preferences for skin color. Way to go Supreme Court!!

  5. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said the Senate needs more time to review the record of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor after new material surfaced from her time with the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund.

Just a day or so ago, we discovered that there are 300 or so boxes of additional material that has just been discovered from her time working with the Puerto Rican Legal Defense Fund, McConnell said in an interview on Fox News.

The committee needs to have access to that material and time to work through it so we know all the facts before we vote on a person who is up for a lifetime position, McConnell said.

  6. Justice Scalia, in his words, write[s] separately to observe that [the Court's] resolution of this dispute merely postpones the evil day on which the Court will have to confront the question:

Whether, or to what extent, are the disparate-impact provisions of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 cnossitent with the Constitution's guarantee of equal protection under the law?

Justice Scalia makes it clear that this question, which is not an easy one, was properly not reached in the Ricci ruling (New Haven 20 Fighters) rendered by Supreme Court 06/29/09.

  9. Obama, a former teacher of constitutional law, said, "I've always believe that affirmative action was less of an issue or should be less of an issue than it has been made out to be in news reports."

TELL THAT TO THE 20 FIREFIGHTERS WHO WEREN'T PROMOTED BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT DARK ENOUGH.
