CANDIDATE NEEDS A HISTORY LESSON
EDITORIAL
Senator Christopher Dodd introduced the "Supporting Military Families Act of 2009" and Representative Tim O’Brien, who is not working with Senator Dodd but is a mayoral candidate for the City of New Britain, decided to jump on Dodd’s band wagon with his calling for military honors for the Polish solders who fought under the Polish flag. The National Guard Military honor chief issued a new edict citing that foreign veterans would no longer be given military honors at their funerals.
Therefore Mr. O’Brien in his attempt at unseating the current Mayor, Timothy Stewart, in today’s New Britain Herald 7-31-09, is calling for the military honors for the Polish soldiers who fought under the allied flag during World War II-- citing that they are part of the community too and should receive the recognition that they deserve from the United States.
I deem it to be a cheap political tactic in trying to obtain the Polish votes in the upcoming election while forgetting so many other servicemen who served as our allies. The complete list of U.S. allies included in addition to Poland: Great Britain, USSR, Australia, Albania, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Greece, India, Luxembourg, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, The Philippines, South Africa, and Yugoslavia. Don't members of the armed forces of these nations deserve honoring as well? Apparently their votes do not count to Mr. O'Brien, or should they?
Perhaps Representative O'Brien should focus on doing the job the voters already elected him to do and deliver the state a working budget--since we have now been operating without a budget for an entire month!
The most telling of this entire publicity stunt by O'Brien is that he apparently believes that being closely associated with Chris Dodd is a good thing.
ReplyDeletehmmmmmm.... I hope you are all satisfied.
ReplyDeleteToday Chris Dodd held a press conference about his prostate cancer to push the Obama health care plan on American citizens.
ReplyDeleteWho holds a press conference about a private personal matter. He repeated over and over again how
he has the best medical insurance
available to him and he wants every
American to have the same benefits.
The problem is Chris Dodd is lying once again to the American people. The average American will never share in the health care plan
that we afford Chris Dodd and Chris Dodd will never have to use
a national health care plan. Chris
Dodd will have prostate surgery at
the top cancer center on the East Coast, Memorial Sloan Kettering all for what has been described as
a cancer in it's earliest of stages? You and I will never have
these options and probably won't even be afforded a second or third opinion.
Tonight the Democratic congress is one step further to pushing through nationalized health care.
Get ready to have your socialized medical ID card issued with all your personal medical background
on it for the goverment to view.
Cheap political pandering at its best.
ReplyDeleteNote that I found this post on another blog simple but quite true
....O’Brien is only running because no one else will. After all, he’s really got nothing to lose so why not?......
How about teaching him the history lessons about how socialism doesn't work and the only way to fix the economy and to create jobs is to lower taxes--especially on those who create the jobs--like businesses and the so-called rich?
ReplyDeleteEven though he has demonstrated his dislike for "rich people" through his deeds, actions, or statements, how many of you have ever worked for a poor person?
Can O'Brien possibly project a more slimy image of a crooked politician - he gets his picture next to Dodd's on top of everything else! THE DISMAL DUO OF DOO DOO!
ReplyDeleteI know plenty of people that work for poor persons by poor people. I'm one of them.
ReplyDeleteI know plenty of people that work for poor persons by poor people. I'm one of them.-- so the poor people own a business and pay your salary directly???
ReplyDeleteSounds like you either work for the government or some liberal organization funded by the government--either way we the people are paying your salary because you are not working for the poor people, you are working for us. That is what is wrong with all these liberal do good programs, you actually think you work for the poor people while I, and people like me are paying you.
....O’Brien is only running because no one else will. After all, he’s really got nothing to lose so why not?......
ReplyDeleteGreat observation: A loser with nothing to lose!
he gets his picture next to Dodd's on top of everything else! THE DISMAL DUO OF DOO DOO!----
ReplyDeleteO'Brien apparently thinks that Dodd is someone to "get close to!"
This should speak volumes about his character all on its own.
No, I/we get up everyday and go to
ReplyDeletework for the poor people because most aren't going to get up and work for themselves.
We hand out food stamps on a credit card and then we provide prepared food for their children for breakfast and lunch in the schools. Over the summer they can get breakfast and lunch too, through age 18! Can't we cut this back? We have no confidence in poor parents. We have to make sure their children are fed everyday. How about asking them
to contribute to school lunch?
Or better, why don't they brown bag it. I make my children a healthy lunch almost everyday. We could send out a flyer with pictorial information on what items should go into the bag and
the costs savings.
Subsidized housing should have incremental increases to the amount
required to be paid by the tenant.
Our taxes and our living expenses increase why shouldn't the dependents too and gradually they
should be weened from the system.
In turn we could then provide a cap
on the property taxes paid by senior citizens and homestead our
properties easing the burden placed
on property owners.
You have to make cuts.
Remember the huge wave of Republicans that swept into Congress 2 years into the Clinton Presidency because Americans were revolting against Clinton's brand of socialism?
ReplyDeleteThat will look like nothing compared to the wave that is coming in 2010!
O'Brien Is durings clearly after the high Polish vote in New Britain. What about residents who served with the other allys that now live in New Britain?
ReplyDeleteAlso, for what it's worth, Tim Stewart is half Irish, half Polish...like me!! So, Tim Stewart has my vote...:)
I guess Tim O'Brien won't get the votes from New Britain's huge Ukrainian population because he excluded them from his measure when choosing to honor only veterans of Poland's military. My guess is he was ignorant of the fact that they too were our ally as part of the former U.S.S.R. Although I am Ukrainian, my vote would be with Tim Stewart anyway, because I know he is the right man for the job.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the Mexican military veterans who live in New Britain. Mexico was our ally and O'Brien isn't looking to honor them???
ReplyDeleteUnless you are hopelessly liberal and/or drinking WAY too much Kool-Aid, you are fully aware that President Obama and his Democrat minions on Capitol Hill can't get enough money from the so-called rich to pay for all the programs they're proposing.
ReplyDeleteOn Saturday, such an inconvenient truth was actually revealed by none other than the New York Times:
"This idea that everything new that government provides ought to be paid for by the top 5 percent, that's a basically unstable way of governing."..."There is no way we can pay for health care and the rest of the Obama agenda, plus get our long-term deficits under control, simply by raising taxes on the wealthy...The middle class is going to have to contribute as well."
Some people just have no ability to learn from past mistakes.
ReplyDeleteTo quote from the Spanish philosopher George Santayana:
"Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it"
O'Brien is one of those liberals, along with his Messiah Obama, who seem to believe jacking up taxes and bloating government through increased government spending will allow us to spend our way to prosperity, otherwise how could he have supported so many spending increases and a new 30% income tax on all businesses, not to mention over $1 million to fund a water exhibit at the new science center?
These are just a couple of examples of the tax and spend mentality that the liberals in the legislature (including O'Brien) have used to spend our state into virtual bankruptcy, now he wants to bring this same mentality to city hall. Guard your wallets before it is too late!
