Representative O’Brien: More Spreading of Your Wealth!

Editorial

Representative O’Brien joined his fellow Democrats in overriding the Governor’s veto on House Bill 6502, which became Public Act 09-183 as a result of their veto override.

This act grants better benefits to contractors performing work in state facilities than even state employees would get for similar work, and does so at taxpayer (YOUR) expense. The act includes just about any contractor performing work for the state, and even extends to businesses providing food services by operating a franchise at a state facility like a DOT rest area, university or hospital cafeteria and more.

It mandates that these private employers provide their employees a wage based on the state’s “prevailing wage” for similar jobs, and also requires these employers to provide the following benefits: Medical, Surgical or Hospital Care, Disability or Death Benefits,

Unemployment Benefits, Vacation Pay, Personal Leave, Training Benefits, Legal Services and Benefits.

The act even goes so far as to mandate that if the state changes contractors, for example the employees of the contractor that is being terminated are not performing their work to the state’s satisfaction, all the employees of the company being terminated are guaranteed a new job with the new contractor. Yes that is current, it dictates to the private employer who he/she must hire and prohibits that employer from firing that employee for a minimum of 90 days, and if some state bureaucrat feels that employee is performing their work satisfactorily, that private employer may never terminate that employee even beyond the 90 day period. Stop me if I am wrong, but isn’t that communism when the government dictates to private citizens who they must hire?

One of the areas these liberals have been praising about this act, is that it apparently provides free health care to all of these contract employees, and their families and children--all at state (YOUR) expense. This is even greater than the benefits provided to current state employees. According to the state comptroller, Nancy Wyman, a current employee must pay between $17.74 to $68.74 per pay period for health care insurance just for the employee (depending on the plan selected) and for employees with families, the rates are $61.69 to 235.92 per pay period, but now employees of a private employer are going to apparently receive these benefits for free from YOU!

Apparently the legislature, along with Mr. O’Brien, just don’t understand that we have a $9 billion budget deficit, a record number of business closures in our state, a record number of taxpayers moving out of state, and still they seem to think they can just keep increasing spending as if the money grows on trees.

NEW BRITAIN – The Hardware City: This is the break down of the 27,400 manufacturing jobs plus the projected employee manufacturing Floor Space that might be created by politician Tim O’Brien if he can launch his long-term 2009 employee Economic Development Plan for the City of New Britain – can he do -if elected Mayor? ? ?

1.- 4,200 American Hardware Jobs – plus manufacturing Floor Space 2,255,912 feet.

2.- 3,000 Landers, Frary and Clark Jobs – plus manufacturing Floor Space 42 acres .

3.- 1,200 North and Judd Jobs - plus manufacturing Floor Space 850,000 feet.

4.- 5,500 Fafnir Ball Bearing Jobs - plus manufacturing Floor Space 2,000,000 feet.

5.- 13,500 Stanley Works Jobs - plus manufacturing Floor Space 1,291,456 feet.

6.- Skinner Chuck Jobs – plus manufacturing Floor Space 65,000 feet.

Tim O’Brien stated in his political campaign speech's for Mayor’s Office - that if elected he would return manufacturing jobs to New Britain. This is a novel, but unrealistic idea considering that the majority of manufacturing jobs were moved either to more business friendly states, or overseas to countries where labor markets are much cheaper.

However, candidate O’Brien stated in his campaigning that NB voters are seeking someone like Tim who can bring back a time of “new beginnings” by bringing back some 27,400 industrial manufacturing jobs that once made NB the Hardware City of the world.

The new goverment "Energy Bill" has
a rovision for selling your house
whereby within 4 years your home will have to inspected by a goverment home inspector for meeting certain energy efficient guidelins such as new windows, insulation, heating and air conditioning equipment, newer appliances etc. You will be required to update any problems found prior to transfer of title.
Can you confirm this and if so, if you are planning on selling your home in the near future you just might want to get that sign on your lawn now.

Anyone who says he can bring 27,400 manufacturing jobs to New Britain, especially at a time when the state legislature is jacking up taxes on employers, is either lying to you or living in a fantasy world.

You decide!

More rhetoric from a liberal nut job!

WE ARE ON THE BRINK of becoming a nation where a majority of citizens receive lavish government handouts and benefits but pay no federal income taxes -- while continuing to vote themselves still more benefits from the shrinking minority who do pay taxes (at ever more "progressive" rates)

Does any one realize that these insurance benefits are just that...benefits? The companies do not owe employees this benefit. In these difficult economic times, businesses are starting to let go of these benefits...they are perks, like offering employees limo rides to and from work every day

Now they are benefits that you as a taxpayer will be forever paying for as benefits to employees of a private company. The law even lets the employer determine the cost and the state must pay whatever the employer demands!

Your tax dollars hard at work thanks to O'Brien and his cronies!

Thank you,
Connecticut State Senator. Donald J DeFronzo, ( District S06 )
United States Senator Christopher Dodd
United States Congressperson Christopher Murphy, (District 5)
Connecticut House of Representatives Speaker Christopher G. Donovan
Connecticut House of Representatives Tim O'Brien
Connecticut House of Representative John Geragosian
Connecticut House of Representative Peter Tercyak

Your policies are now starting to have an impact of the economy in New Britain and Connecticut as a whole. The problem is the results are just not what you promised.
Where is the trillion dollars that you spent? Where are the jobs? Where are the infrastructure improvements? What happened to the 8% (max) unemployment? Why are the buses in town still 10 years old? Why is Pratt moving? Why is WAL_MART closing? GM (government motors) is still hemorrhaging with sales down with no uptick in site.
Factories are leaving, retail stores are closing, and UN employment is up,
A trillion dollars gone, no improvement and now you want to take a trillion or so more for national healthcare? Are we supposed to believe that “YOU” guys can manage a multi trillion dollar industry?
A free capitalistic society has brought us advances in technology, science and healthcare unmatched in human history and you folks want us to abandon that for socialism? A social experiment that has failed its citizens time and time again?

Tim O'Brien, never met a tax he didn't like raising or a freebie he didn't like the rest of us to pay for.

Imagine how this kind of give everyone everything for free management would affect the City of New Britain and your taxes?

Most liberals like O'Brien push the tired old liberal philosophy of taxing the rich more to pay for more free stuff for the so-called poor or needy, but Former New Hampshire Republican Party state chairman Fergus Cullen, a longtime Connecticut resident who now heads the Hartford-based Yankee Institute, says the rich are already carrying most of the weight. The top 6 percent of the population, he notes, pays more than the bottom 94 percent combined.

“This is shaping up to be a very exciting race,” said Paul Carver, chairman of the Republican Town Committee. “I’m very confident that the voters of New Britain will return an experienced and fiscally conservative chief executive over a challenger who, as a state legislator, has not even been able to pass a state budget.”

Dear Mr. O'Brien,

As our state representative you have proposed many a bill on property tax reform. You have had
a bill for Homestead exemption, Property Reval, Property tax fairness, Cap on annual increases to annual assesments? You also proposed a bill 5790 to suspend
all corporate tax credits during these economic times through 2011.
In reviewing what items you were able to get passed, I didn't see
that any of your bills made it through. That's ok we can't knock
you for trying. However I imagine
that these bills were short on how
you were going to pay for the tax
breaks you want to give. It is evident to me that you are pretty much anti-business based on bill 5790 and the fact that you interjected yourself with Walmart and their business. I guess big business will pay for the cuts you would like to see for property owners. Which brings us to your campaign to attract big business back to New Britain or the state for that matter? How do you propose to both attract big business by taxing them out of profit to provide lower taxes to property owners?

As a taxpayer I agree with some of your ideas about homestead and property relief for seniors. But we are seeking real solutions to the problem and we need to work with corporations in order to do business and create more jobs. The one thing I haven't heard from you is where you are going to also make necessary cuts from the fat goverment to help balance our state economy?

I invite you to respond here at Frank Smith Says NB.
