  1. Nobody would even notice that 20 of the union members are gone, unless the mayor lays off a certain public works employee and you happen to own a restaurant.

  2. Frank: Just how much taxpayer money are you responsible for wasting during your time at Mattabassett? Inquiring minds want to know.

  3. New Haven CT - The U.S. Senate will call two New Haven fire fighters to testify at the confirmation hearings of Judge Sonia Sotomayor making it clear the Senate Judiciary Committee intents to place affirmative action at the center of the Senate battle over Judge Sotomayor's nomination.

A Judiciary Committee posting lists Frank Ricci and Ben Vargas as expected Judiciary Committee witnesses. Firefighter Ricci was the lead plaintiff in Ricci v. DeStefano, the controversial case in which Judge Sotomayor ruled the City of New Haven CT acted constitutionally when it discounted the results of a qualifying test for promotions after too few black firefighters scored as high as their white counterparts.

Firefighter Vargas, who is Hispanic, was the only non-white co-plaintiff in the racially charged case.

The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the decision of Judge Sonia Sotomayor that City of New Haven CT acted constitutionally in case of in Ricci v. DeStefano.

  4. Unfortunately, it's the better, younger, hungrier (in need) employees that will be laid off first.

  6. All the Mayor needs to do is follow Governor Weicker's example. Lay off enough of their members until the union is pleading with you to take more concessions than you can imagine to get their members back to work at whatever reduced rates that they can get you to accept, because the union's seem to care about nothing but protecting the number of members to keep the dues flowing into the union coffers.

It worked like a dream for Governor Weicker.

  7. WASHINGTON DC - Obama’s health care proposal is the repeal of the Medicare program for those 65+ as we know it. The elderly will go from being the group with the most access to free medical care to the one with the least access.

Indeed, the principal impact of the Obama health care program will be to reduce sharply the medical services the elderly can use.

No longer will their every medical need be met, their every medication prescribed, their every need to improve their quality of life answered.

  8. If Obama effectively repeals Medicare, the voters (the 65 seniors, their children and their grand-children) will repeal the Democrat party.

  9. WASHINGTON — Supporters of Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor are quietly targeting the New Haven CT firefighter Frank Ricci who's at the center of Sotomayor's most controversial ruling. Sotomayor backers are urging reporters to probe New Haven firefighter Frank Ricci background. On the eve of Sotomayor's Senate confirmation hearing, her advocates have been urging journalists to scrutinize what one called the "troubled and litigious work history" of firefighter Frank Ricci.

The liberal advocacy group - "People for the American Way" have drawn reporters' attention to Firefighter Ricci's past employment record. Six months before the promotion test Ricci quit his second job. He bought $1,000 worth of the textbooks he was told to study, had a friend read them onto tapes to compensate for his dyslexia, studied every spare hour he got, and sat for the test, to compete for one of eight lieutenant slots open. Frank Ricci came in sixth.

Because he is a White Man whose people came from Italy, Frank Ricci was denied a promotion he worked for and won, and was robbed of his American dream by the liberal bigots who run city of New Haven. Judge Sonia Sotomayor should be asked about this at the Senate hearing. She dismissed this case in the blink of an eye with one written paragraph.

  10. Once again the Liberals are back at it trying to destroy an American citizen simply because this person might not agree with their liberal slant. During the campaign Obama's people went after the "joe the plumber" guy simply because Obama looked like a fool trying to answer this man's question.

This man "joe" didn't go to some campaign event, Obama came into his personal neighborhood, trying to look like some kind of normal guy. He should have stuck to his choreographed hand picked questions and left it at that.

Now they are going after this New Haven firefighter Frank Ricci, simply because Judge Sotomayor was overturned due to a horrible and racist ruling. They call the Libs a caring group & they are for the people- what a crock of BS.

  11. WASHINGTON: On Friday 07/10/09 citing in an e-mail Frank Ricci's troubled and litigious work history the liberal advocacy group "People for the American Way" drew media reporters attention to Ricci's past. Other advocates for Sotomayor have discreetly urged on-line journalists to pursue similar Ricci story lines.

Specifically, the advocates have zeroed in on an earlier 1995 lawsuit Ricci filed claiming the city of New Haven discriminated against him because he's dyslexic.

The advocates cite other Hartford Courant stories from the same era recounting how Ricci was fired by a fire department in Middletown, CT. Firefighter Ricci allegedly said at the time he was terminated because of safety concerns he raised. The Middletown-area fire department was subsequently fined for safety violations, but the Connecticut Department of Labor dismissed Firefighter Ricci's charges.

  12. To go after so sympathetic a plaintiff as Frank Ricci...with this liberal advocacy group "People for the American Way" (PTAW) is a new low in the politics of personal destruction. But, Ricci has his own advocates, including conservative commentators such as CNN's Lou Dobbs and Fox's Sean Hannity...If they were smart, they'd keep a low profile this liberal advocacy group PTAW.

  13. With his awards for bravery, some 17 years of fire department service and history of overcoming dyslexia, Ricci has become a compelling human character in the Sotomayor confirmation drama.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will summoned Frank Ricci along with Ben Vargas of the New Haven Fire Department as two of their 14 witnesses at the Senate hearings.

  14. NEW HAVEN CT - Has anyone noticed that the New Haven Firefighters were on their own with this long lawsuit. Where was the legal help from the very prominent,
International Association or Fire Fighters. (IAFF located out of DC)

And, we never heard a peep from anyone associated with either the Local Union or the International Union.

Anyone who thinks they are safely defended by their Union, think again. It depends on what part of the political spectrum you fall under. White males - why your at the bottom of the ladder.

  15. A good leader knows how to negotiate with others and come to a responsible agreement.

It looks like our foul-mouthed drunken bigot mayor doesn’t have the leadership skills needed to negotiate anything other than his next drink.

Perhaps the unions know that he can’t be trusted to keep his word.

He threatens to “choke the $#!%” out of people, or “punch the mother-%$#@%& in the %$#@%&*$ face”. Sounds to me as if our foul-mouthed drunken bigot mayor can threaten pretty good but I doubt very much he can follow up on his threats. Must be all the scotch talking because we all know he is all talk and no action.

  16. Located in Washington, D.C. - "People For the American Way" monitors what it characterizes as "right-wing" activities, conducting rapid response, political lobbying, and volunteer mobilization.

In addition, the organization's affiliated foundation (People For the American Way Foundation) runs programs designed for politically progressive infrastructure building.

People For Foundation programs include African American Religious Affairs which mobilizes and supports progressive activism in African American congregations and communities.

  17. Sounds like after 3 or 4 months of thinking about it, pontificating over it and exploring it, Tim O'Brien may have finally and actually made his first decision ever! What a man, he is demonstrating his ability to think on his feet:

State Rep. Tim O’Brien (D-24) is set to make an announcement on his political plans this year at an announcement on July 17th to be held at the Pulaski Democratic Club, 89 Grove Street, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

    Could this possibly be why????

According to the Democratic Town Committee (DTC), no other Democrat has expressed an interest in the running for Mayor in the run up to endorsements to be held later this month.

Maybe no other Democrat wants to take on Tim Stewart because they know he is the right man for the job and support him in his re-election!!!!

Tim Stewart may come off as a little rough around the edges at times, but that is the character most people in New Britain have come to like the most about him. At least you always know where he stands on an issue and he certainly knows how to make a decision in less than 3 months!!

  18. Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Stewart the one who made a quick decision and promised NB residents that he wasn’t going to sell NB land to Tomaosso only to change his mind later saying that the deal was too good to pass up? Is that the kind of fast thinking the residents of NB like?

It is better to not make a promise, and do it, than it is to make a promise and not keep it.

People may like that “rough around the edges” demeanor, but I assure you that when they voice their opinion and it differs from the mayors opinion and his “rough edges” are manifested in the way of aggressive gestures, cussing and name calling as if he was a child having a tantrum, embarrassing himself and all within ear shot, then they will certainly change their mind about his “rough edges”.

I plan on voting for Stewart, but only because to vote for Tim O’Brian is just plain ridiculous, suicidal even, but Stewart could make things easier if he would simply have a little class and start acting a little more respectable.

  19. Question for "Anonymous" who wrote on, 7/13, at
10:08 p.m.: What land did Mayor Stewart sell to, as you say, "Tomaosso?" I think everybody knows who you are Mr. or Ms." A."

  20. Mayor.

Lay them off - union leadership FIRST - and see how fast their tune changes.

These people ALWAYS, ALWAYS piss all over the less senior employees.

There's no money left! And you still gave them raises? What gratitude.

  21. Regardless of when/where the land was sold, if it in fact was sold, I have no doubt that if the mayor sold something it was in the best interest of the city to sell it. What difference does it make who bought it? Sounds like the Democrats have a list of those who can, and those who can't buy land from the city, but then that just continues their long standing practice of class warfare.
