Democratic Town Chairman Supports Childish Behavior!

DTC CHAIRMAN McNAMARRA

EDITORIAL by:FRANK SMITH

In his most recent rant, Democratic Party Chairman John Mc Namara attacked council candidate Don Naples for criticizing the way Alderman Phil Sherwood “taunted” the proposed developers of Pinnacle Heights during the August 4th Planning, Zoning and Housing Committee meeting regarding the proposed development.

During this meeting, Alderman Sherwood was condescending, patronizing and outride rude towards this developer who is planning to invest $5 million into this project. Sherwood demonstrated his total lack of understanding regarding the business world by his insisting that they reveal what tenants the developers are negotiating with--even after being told that this could not be done until the developer takes control of the property. The final insult came when Sherwood smugly asked the developer “Where’s the beef,” a comment that has even been reported in the newspaper.

Sherwood’s comments to this developer were so rude, that the mayor has even been quoted as saying he is embarrassed for the City of New Britain to have to be represented by such unprofessional behavior.

This recent meeting was only the latest incident involving Alderman Sherwood and his rude behavior regarding this investor. The council Democrats scheduled an earlier meeting on July 13th, whereby they were aware that the developer was away on vacation and could not attend. They knew his representatives would not be in attendance several days in advance of the meeting, and yet they continued with the meeting—wasting the time of everyone involved.

With regard to the July 13th meeting, Alderman Sherwood sent an e-mail around to a list of local elected officials whereby he was very critical of both the mayor and the developer. Sherwood made ridiculous statements questioning what kind of developer could afford to invest $5 million, but can’t pay someone to represent them at a meeting during their vacation. Sherwood also criticized the mayor for not representing the developer at this same meeting and even suggested that if the mayor himself could not attend, then the mayor should appoint someone from his office to represent the developer.

Mayor Stewart had already announced during the previous council meeting that the developer would not be available to attend the July 13th meeting and reported that the developer confirmed he would be in attendance at the August 4th meeting.

Sherwood’s own e-mail acknowledging that no one representing the developer would attend this meeting is dated July 9th—so in his own writing he acknowledges 4 days in advance that no one representing the developer would be at the meeting—so who is playing games now?

One could only imagine the personal attacks that would have been launched against the mayor had he accepted Sherwood’s invitation to represent the developer, not to mention the fact that the mayor represents the city, and Sherwood apparently does not understand this would constitute a conflict of interest.

In conclusion, the Democratic Town Chairman apparently encourages such unprofessional conduct by his party’s elected officials, otherwise, why would he be posting comments on his blog that attack anyone that dared to criticize this ridiculous behavior?

  1. There is no excuse for Sherwood's nasty behavior. If he were working for a private company, he would have been fired on the spot, but he is free to act like an ass towards this developer because he is one of Little Mac's "untouchables" on the city council.

I'm confused, doesn't Sherwood owe an appology to every person who wasted their time going to the July 13th meeting where no one would be in attendance?

What does that say about you?????

  4. As reported in THEBIZYBEE"
    * THE BLIGHT ISSUE, THAT ISNT REALLY AN ISSUE, just another lame attempt by New Britain's democratic elected officials in scaring the people of our city more. Accusing the Mayor of making it easier for slumlords to get away with not keeping up with their properties. NOT TRUE! In a press release written by Alderman Phil Sherwood, Alderwomen Shirley Black and Eva M. were quoted but later admitted they never said the quotes that were in the paper after they realized Phil Sherwood was wrong and went back on their votes. hmm...something smell filthy? yup, its Filthy Phil! CAUGHT LYING. --

Sounds like John McNamara would be proud of Filthy Phil. Wasn't it only a month or so back that McNamara had to "stand tall" before the editor of the Herald for misquoting what the Herald had to say regarding the Wal-Mart issue? If I remember correctly he claimed the Herald reported that the mayor refused to meet with Wal-Mart officials, but according to the Herald he used their story out of context. McNamara tried to explain it away by saying that his publication is a partisan one, so I guess that means the truth somehow doesn't matter?

Now we have one of his rising stars being reported in "The Bizy Bee" as having provided misinformation about 2 other Aldermen which was apparently misquoted in The Herald. When are these Democrats going to stop playing their silly games?

Don't the people of New Britain deserve the truth for a change?

  5. Little Mac is just getting really desperate as he watches his party self-destructing before his eyes on both the national and the local level. People are revolting like never before against the Democratic Party's efforts to ram socialism down our throats.

  6. You are absolutely right, the people deserve the truth! I have had enough of their childish behavior. McNamara accuses the Republicans of 'throwing the first stones already before labor day' however, they have been throwing stones constantly for the past ten years! Get out your brooms New Britain and SWEEP THIS COUNCIL TO THE CURB! We deserve better!!

  7. Frank: Phil Sherwood is a lying, conniving despicable person. If he really did that to Eva Magnuszewski and Shirley Black, they should sue him and John The Lesser should see to it that Sherwood is dumped from the Dem Party.

Then again, little Mac and Suzanne Bielinski must think Sherwood is great; after the DTC dumped Pete Denuzze (Town Clerk) under the bus and endorsed Bielinski for the Town Clerk office, Bielinski then hired Sherwood to be Manager for her Campaign. She can pay Sherwood - out of her campaign war chest - to do that job; not to worry though, Bielinski's sister Terry Gerratana (Greg Gerratana's mother) sits on the State Election Enforcement Commission. Surely, everything about Bielinski's campaign and those of all the other Dems may be deemed above board.

Sherwood can use the money he gets paid for his own campaign. All one big happy family.

  8. Isn't it time for real change on the council? We need responsible people who are going to represent the people of New Britain and to make decisions based on what is in the best interest of the city instead of simply pushing and ACORN agenda!

  9. After reading the comments on McNamara's blog it appears he may have drank way too much of the Kool-Aid from the Obama mania media. Maybe he should join the rest of America and give Fox News a try. Who knows, he might even learn a thing or too about the Messiah!

  10. It continues to disgust me that a relative of former Mayor McNamara is still the head of the Democratic Party.

Change that and many of our complaints about who Democrats elect will go away.

Hopefully Frank and Tom Bozek will do something about it.

  11. McNamara picks someone for the position whom he thinks will win without consequences. Over and over, his selection are an embarrassment to the city. Sorry to use the word "dumb", but that is the truth. It reflects on him as either not caring about our city or being too "dumb" to know the difference. If any of you have been in the arena working with these people who are making decisions, you know how scary it is. McNamara has to go, but then didn't he stack the DTC with HIS people who do not think for themselves, as a dictator would???

Former Mayor William MacNamara has made it clear publicly that in no way, shape or form is he related to John MacNamara. There is no comparing the two...William MacNamara is a man of integrity, John MacNamara is not!!!

Phil Sherwood needs to get his act together...do NOT insult possible investors in New Britain; do NOT quote others in press releases to the paper without their knowledge or consent...they just may not agree with you!! Don't drag others down to your level!!

The Republicans, hoping to steal the message as they have so often before, have invited in the brass-knucklers of the wacko-fringe: the racists, the haters, the misanthropes, the nest of the bombers and shooters, the lunatics. They’ve done this before and think it’s high theater. Except this time there’s no moderating forces left at all in the GOP hierarchy to hit the “off” switch. The party has been reduced down to the coffee grounds. It is the base distilled to the base of the base. A few southerners, a few wild westerners, the usual opportunists. …..The demagogues of the airwaves, who alone define and control the Republican party once of Lincoln and Roosevelt and Eisenhower — racist to the core — whip the mob to its mad frenzy.
    ---------------------------------

    Hey Little Mac:

If the Republican Party is so "reduced down to coffee grounds" as you put it, then why did I just get a letter from National Democratic Chairman Tim Kaine crying the blues because the Republican Party has raised more than twice the money the Democrats have raised so far this year? If they are so alone, who is donating this money?? Was it ACORN?

This is just one example of how out of touch with reality the local Democratic party is.

The Democrats take advantage of the innocent Council members of their own party, department heads and Council members, Bernacki and Salvio. (See the comments by Bernacki in another of your articles re the Finance Director).
All this kind of activity was made possible in 2002 when Tim O'Brien engineered the elimination of Minority Party Representation in New Britain. Guess who his "right hand man" was? None other than CCSU student, Phil Sherwood! Who would have thought?

    ReplyDelete
  20. The editorial in the Herald today says it is past time for state leaders to pass a budget. This is true, and where is the leadership of Representative O'Brien to get this process done? He and his fellow liberals are overriding vetoes of the governor to ram through free health insurance for the children of janitors who work for private contractors and other frivolous spending bills spending more money we don't have--adding huge increases to the already $9 billion state deficit. Mr. O'Brien's proposed solution to the budget situation--massive tax increases on employers. Wouldn't his 30% income tax on all business income do a lot to create jobs?
Mr. O'Brien doesn't ever seem to find a give-away he doesn't like at taxpayer expense or a tax he doesn't like to raise, and where is he during this difficult period facing our state?

Appearing before the common council of New Britain to defend a ridiculously defective blight ordinance he crafted when he was an alderman and fighting the efforts to fix that defective legislation because it would embarrass him during an election if the public knew he messed it up in the first place. What a guy!

This guy has to be absolutely insane. He's calling the party of Lincoln, and the party responsible for the Civil Rights movement, racist? The Republicans, in my experience and viewpoint, are the party that emphasizes character and principles, not race. Race is not a factor at all in the good or evil that people do. If we are so ground down to the core, why have we endorsed 7 individuals who are registered Democrats or unaffiliated??!! Why have we endorsed African-American and Hispanic candidates if we are racist? Why are there more and more Democrats in NB supporting the Republicans than ever before? The NB Republican Party is the only party that puts our city ahead of politics, and MacNamara is scared out of his mind because he knows the left-wing Dems are in trouble. He has to resort to these tactics, just as prominent Dems at the national level (Pelosi, Reid, etc) do, calling Republicans Nazis and other horrid things. It's the only option left. Most galling, is the fact that in their zeal for power and control of peoples' lives and money, the liberal faction of the Democratic Party is closer to the German National Socialist Party (Nazis) than any could have ever imagined.

The Connecticut delegation has gone into hiding. I think they are afraid to face the voters because what they are doing is completely opposite of what most of the voters want. The polls are now showing that 3/4 of all voters oppose everything these socialists are doing. I would love to see Murphy hold another town hall so he can stand there and smugly tell the people he knows what is good for them more than they do. Hopefully they will all remember how they have been ignored on election day.

This year we fix the city council. Next year we fix last years mistake and fix congress.

On the other hand I would like the state ethics committee to investigate and reprimand Alderman Sherwood. The apparent willful misrepresentation of a fellow alderperson for the sole purpose of advancing/blocking legislation is a grievous attack on the trust bestowed to him when he won the last election. As a proponent of various FOI and ethics rules changes Alderperson Sherwood undoubtedly was well aware of the violation of his sworn oath.

Phil Sherwood has proven to lie and
interject continual un-invited road blocks to positive changes in our city. He has on many occasions embarrassed the city and it's residents with un-professional

Sherwood acts as the lead agitator on the council, and then the other mindless twits follow him and add to the attacks, for example during the meeting over Jordan's at the golf course Adam Paltoz supported Sherwood's nonsense by suggesting Jordan's sells hot dogs from China.

Perhaps it was simply a poor choice of words and he meant to suggest that they should sell a brand of hot dogs that are made in New Britain at this venue (English as a second language) but it was perceived as a vicious attack against Jordan's.

How can New Britain ever get developers to invest here if every time they attempt to, they are insulted by the council? If I were the developer of Pinnacle Heights, I would have walked out of the meeting and never came back, thanks to Sherwood's nasty attitude. I am sure that this gentleman could find a city that would welcome his money instead of demonizing him as some rich white guy that needs to be punished for being successful which seems to be the overall message of the national Democratic Party.
