LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Frank,

Congratulations on your one year anniversary.

No disrespect to the many people who have voiced there opinion on your site, I will only post with my identity attached.

One common thread I have read in many of the comments is how do we change politics in New Britain? Well the election this November is the best opportunity the Voters/Tax Payers have of making a difference in how the City of New Britain continues. One smart man once said there are only two campaigns to be run “Continue the Progress” or “It is time for a change”. New Britain is the exception to this, “Continue the Progress” Re-elect Mayor Stewart and “It is time for a change” remove those members of the Common Council that are not working for the taxpayers but their own political agenda.

There has been numerous times on your Blog that the antics of the members of the Common Council have been documented. Remember who they came from and work for there opponents. Good candidates from both parties are either denied endorsement from the Democratic Town Committee because they are not liberal enough or cannot break the party line vote advantage. The party line lever has been gone for a long time, but busing voters to the polls to vote a party line does both a disservice to the election process and to the taxpayers of New Britain.

Mayor Stewart’s opponent is running a campaign of “It is time for a change” he is partially correct, the change needed is not in the Office of Mayor but on the Legislative side.

Just to be clear, I am supporting Mayor Stewart and the entire Republican slate. I have been with Mayor Stewart since April of 2003, when he decided to run for Mayor. He has a vision for New Britain that he fights everyday to bring forward. His record over the last 3 terms is excellent and New Britain is moving in the right direction.

I offer my help to anyone interested in making a real difference in the City of New Britain this November. I am at Stewart for Mayor Headquarters, 10 Washington Street, New Britain every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM (or later). I can be reached at home 225-4770 or by cell phone 416-2140. Contact me to help make a difference this November.

Thank you
Pete Steele

  1. Frank, please check out the Courant's coverage of the state's 2009 CMT and CAPT scores. It is bad enough that New Britain is at the bottom of the list, but there was quite a drop in one year!

It is not all not about ineffective parenting. Until Doris Kurtz goes, our students won't learn. Demoralized teachers are not good teachers.

Since five out of six candidates for the BOE are voted in, the responsibility lies with the respective town committees to select the best possible candidates. This has not been happening. We need candidates who undestand their role instead of those who blindly support Doris Kurtz as she continues to destroy our school district.

  2. Hasn't Ms. Kurtz been renting an apartment since she moved here to take the job, apparently so that she can be "portable" and ready to move on to the next job in the next city that advances her career?

Maybe we need a superintendent wiling to buy a home, pay taxes, and have a stake in the community like the rest of us?

  3. Go team Stewart...I'm telling ya the mayors bipartisan ticket is going all the way this year with a clean sweep. Sweep this council dirt out the door!

  5. I don’t believe for one moment that every time Peter Steel comments on this blog he always signs his name to his comments. I believe that only shows how truly deceitful he really is. He couldn’t tell the truth if his life counted on it.

Also, before you blame Dr. Kurtz for our children’s test scores you might want to consider how our mayor and city council constantly under funds the BOE by millions of dollars every year.

This only shows how truly deceitful YOU are, my friend, by being such a coward you cannot identify yourself and yet make personal attacks.

  7. I find it truly amusing and equally sickening that you, one of our esteemed public officials, would stoop to bullying tactics saying that I should “prepare to hit the floor” as to suggest that Peter Steel would injure me in some way or one of his cronies. One can’t help but see a pattern with your kind saying things like how they would like to “choke the $#*& of out of someone” or “punch that mother f@%^$# in the face” about another person but never to that person’s face. Perhaps the reason you know a coward so well is because you sir are the master of them?

I am of the belief that if you have issue with someone you should take it up with them first to resolve the issue as I have done consistently in the past. You and your kind on the other hand have never came to me to discuss anything you had issue with me about and only spoke lies behind my back. You take issue with me now because I speak the truth about your follies. I have an idea, how about you and your buddies grow up and stop acting like 3rd graders on the play ground thinking you can bully people into submission.

Your stupidity and continued use of anonymity most certainly identifies you, yet you continue your charade. That's OK, we know who you are, now more than ever! Instead of trying to obscure your identity, tell NB who you are. I've told NB who I am, what's your excuse?

  9. I see Lou, you and your buddies can hide behind anonymity and call people all the objectionable names you want, but as you can see, you don’t like it when others do the same to you, do you?

Your names don’t harm me one bit, matter of fact I am honored to be hated by you and your kind so much seeing how questionable your character is.

  10. Did I missed a post here? Where were people being told to "hit the floor"?

To anonymous. You toss in a personal attack, claim someone is threatening you (although I haven't read it here), resubmit the attack then cry foul?

These back and forths do not further a discussion or solve a problem.

Lou, please don't waste your time!

ps at $13,000 per student how is the city underfunding local education? Where are our state legislators in watching out for us via these unfunded mandates? 600 students in out of town magnet schools? What brain surgeon allowed an urban district (New Britain) in the poorest ERG to send children to ANOTHER urban district (Hartford)? We are now a suburb? No wonder our test scores are lower than Hartford. Hartford's tests are being bolstered by New Britain's gifted students.

  11. Mark,

Frank must have edited his blog and pulled off Lou Salvio’s unfortunate post, as he should have.

At least Frank knows when someone crosses the line.
