On August 14, 2009 the next Police Academy will begin with 14 New Britain police recruits and officers from Avon P.D., Manchester P.D., and Simsbury PD filling out the class. We have passed all requirements and inspection by POST-C.
We are beginning the review of a new scheduling system. I am working with Mr. Donnelly and the vendor to be sure all necessary functions are part of the system. In the upcoming months we will be testing it out.
We have begun implementing the Justice Assistance Grant (Federal) by purchasing Police Motorcycles, hiring a part-time Assistant and part-time grant writer. We also are selecting personnel for the Warrant Squad and PAL will hire a Director at the end of the summer. Each of these positions and purchases will enhance policing directly or indirectly. The grant operates for a period of two years.
Although we have not been selected for the CHRP, police officer hiring program, our grant application remains on file for any future funding that may be released in the future.
I also have been notified that we have been awarded a Justice Assistance Grant (State) that I submitted has been approved. This grant will allow the formation of a Street Crimes Unit in the month of August.
The Department made 768 arrests for the month with 552 being criminal in nature and 216 were infractions. The department has received a total of 4,425 cases this month. We have recorded 29,593 calls for service this year which is 1,245 less calls for service than the same time last year.
This report does point out how the department puts a lot effort in completing it's mission.
ReplyDeleteI am excited about these new police officers joining the force. Hopefully they will protect us from those foolish people who put us and our loved ones at risk by drinking and driving.
