Why doesn't O'Brien think it is wrong for the Council Democrats to refuse to give back part of their pay while the two Republicans on the Council gave back 5% of their pay in an effort to match the cuts city employees were being asked to make, and didn't the Democratic leadership criticize and ridicule the 2 Republicans for their givebacks to the city while O'Brien's fellow Democrats chose to keep their money?
Of course he's willing to give back the $4000 raise, if the voters of New Britain are foolish enough to elect O'Brien he'd still be making more than he ever has before. The man has never held down a real job in his life.
Frank, This article in the Hartford Courant is one of the most ridiculuos of all of his accusations in this campaign. The compensation of all elected officials of the city rests in the hands of the Common Council. This committee has not met for three years. This year they failed to meet and adjust the pay of all the officials. With 13 votes on the council they could have met and recommended a decrease to the mayor's salary, but once again they shirked their charter driven responsibility and forgot. O'Brien's claims that I took a raise during these difficult economic times is absolutely false! The first and only increase that the mayor received was back two years ago before the bottom dropped out of the economy. And $7.5million dollars in increased taxes is a bold faced lie! Grand list growth was largely a result of the state mandated property revaluation of 2007, so if someone's assessment went up more than 25% then they would have had a small increase in their tax liability. If it went up less than that or even decreased in many households, there was savings! Saying that 90% of the people had a tax increase is just ludicrous. I guess desperate people will say anything to get elected. I hope the people of this great city can realize that we certainly are heading in the right direction, and now is not the time to change directions. Vote team Stewart on Nov.3rd!
O'Brien should "roll back" himself to Manchester. We've had enough of his duplicitiy here in New Britain. He should take Laura Woodie, Marie Lausch and Juan Verdu with him.

I know I could get a group of volunteers together who would gladly help with that move so it wouldn't cost him anything. He could just imagine he is paying for it with one of his tax increases, so he can feel right at home.
