THE MATTABASSETT DISTRICT SEWER CZAR!
The New Britain Democratic controlled City Council with their second attempt to re-appoint it's three members to the Mattabassett district board of directors but, Mayor Timothy Stewart with his veto message of the the democratic resolution #30815 citing " appointments to these regional boards are not ceremonial positions awarded to the political faithful, they are critical jobs that have serious consequences to the City and its residents and as such merit scrutiny to ensure that board representatives meet the desired criteria".
The Mayor continued his comments as follows "Given the importance to the city of These Regional appointments , I must take exception to one of the Common Council's recent appointments to the Mattabassett District Commission, that of William Candelori. My objections are based on both the questionable ethics surrounding Mr. Candelori's career as well as the quality of representation during his term as a Mattabassett commissioner and Chair.
In 1992 Mr. Candelori pled guilty in Federal court to charges of income tax eavation. Subsequently in a 1995 Settlement, he was permanently barred by the Security and Exchange Commission from associating with any broker, dealer, municipal securities dealer, investment advisor or investment company for his role in the colonial reality scandal. This investment scheme negatively impacted many local residents and businesses who invested in this company. Currently, Mr. Candelori's name is currently mentioned in association with an investigation into alleged bribery and fraud at Foxwoods Casino.
Aside from Mr. Candelori's past and possibly current ethical lapses, he has not a strong advocate for the best interest of the City of New Britain taxpayers. He has been tardy and often unresponsiveness to questions from City department's, including the Mayor's office, on questions on the operation of the Mattabassett District. He has not vigorously pursued negotiations with the City of Middletown as a way to resolve revenue and operating issues at the district. Most recently, Mr. Candelori politicized a misunderstanding regarding a penalty against the City for an alleged late payment of the annual assessment - which was later cleared up at the Board level. I do not take this step lightly as I am always reluctant to cast aspersions on New Britain residents who give their time and talents to public service by serving on local board and commissions. But Mr. Candelori by virtue of his record, both with his business related ethical challenges as well as his actions as a Mattabassett commissioner require that I take steps to ensure that New Britain has the best possible representation on the Mattabassett Board.
For the above reasons, and with all due respect to the members of the Common Council, I hereby veto Resolution #30815 passed on November 12, 2009."
Sincerely,
TTS/
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
Subsequent to the Mayor Stewart's Veto message the headlines that appeared in the New Britain Herald November 19th read as follows: Allegation Fly after mayor's veto of appointments. by James Craven.
Candelori , quoted in the Herald article, "Stewart's actions smacked of political retribution and ethnic racism."
THE MAYOR IS THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE CITY OF NEW BRITAIN AND ANYONE LIKE MR. CANDELORI WHO APPARENTLY DOESN'T RESPECT THAT FACT SHOULD RESIGN AND NOT LET HIS EGO CREATE ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS FOR THE CITY AND ITS TAXPAYERS!
Now the Democrats, power hungry to control our City, will reappoint their sewer czar despite this czar's past record cited within the Mayor's veto.
THEREFORE,THE TAXPAYERS BE SCORNED!
Did he resign from Colonial Realty?

The Great Czar of The Mattabassett District has no shame.

The comment quoted above was taken from another of Frank Smith's blogs.
There is a real estate firm with an office on Deming Rd. in Berlin named "Creative Realty or Creative Real Estate." Purportedly, both Candelori and his son are principals or employees of that firm. If that is so, would that not mean that both have a real estate sales or broker's license? If true, would that not be a violation of the edict imposed by the SEC as mentioned in the quoted comment above?
Herald, do you know about this?
Time to flush the toilet!
ReplyDeleteI wii personally ask for the resignation of any council member who votes in favor of pushing Candelori through. Anyone who did vote yes , obviously is not looking out for the City of New Britain, and those are the kind of people that we DO NOT need sitting on our council.
ReplyDeleteI will further ask that there be a newly appointed construction commitee to over see this $100,000,000 project. Something can't be right if people are going out of there way to appoint people with such tarnished backrounds.
I also do not have a problem putting my name on this.
Jim Sanders Jr.
You should have titled the article "the CRAP CZAR of Mattabassett" because he seems to be full of it, or at least full of himself!
ReplyDeleteDid anyone ever think to check and see if he ever even bothered to pay his real estate taxes?
ReplyDeleteFOLLOW THE MONEY!!!!
ReplyDeleteHe is might be waiting for those construction kick backs
ReplyDeletejust follow the money!
ReplyDeleteMr. Sanders makes a valid point:

I would be happy to help him circulate petitions asking for any council member that votes to ram through the appointment of this shameful excuse for a director. The Mayor had legitimate reasons for vetoing his appointment in the best interests of the people, and that veto should stand.
It is about time that WE THE PEOPLE stood up to these out of control so-called leaders on the council.
Just like the out of control Congress, maybe they too need to be reminded who they work for?
