  2. He doesn't have the keys and probably would get confused as to where to sit pretty easily. What a sad state of affairs when a person of his ilk gets to be one step away from being mayor? Better yet "Press the Flesh" almost got elected, that would have led to a mass exodus from the city of middle class people.

  3. Did the New Britain Herald go out of business?

They have not updated their news for 2 days now.

    Maybe someone is on vacation?

And they wonder why they our floundering??????

  4. Mayor Stewart gave an excellent presentation. The seniors in attendance had many questions, which he readily and satisfactorily gave answers to. They all seemed very impressed with his lengthy talk.

  5. NB PROPERTY TAX RELIEF: Social Security 2010 - No Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA) - Medicare Medical Insurance $96.40 in 2010.

Individual New Britain homeowners 65 or older in 2010 or who received Social Security disability benefits are eligible for a discount on their property taxes if their total income was less than $30,500 for single applicants or $37,300 for married couples.

If a married couple wishes to apply for Property Tax Relief, it is only necessary for one of the spouses to have been over 65 to be eligible for the program.

The NB Senior Center GOLDEN NOTES March 2010 Newsletter will be listing appointment schedules for seniors applying for HOMEOWNERS Property Tax Relief on Grand List Owner Application Form M-35H. The HOMEOWNERS total income include their 2009 Social Security benefits as Income (Form SSA1099 - add Medicare premiums).

Rep. Tim O’Brien’s agenda of Property Tax Relief for additional NB Seniors by raising their income limits to $34,000 for a single person and up to $40,000 for married couple could be side-tracked by President’s Obama’s second round of $250 stimulus payments to seniors, veterans and people with disabilities with said $250 stimulus payments to be listed as other income on Grand List Owner application for tax credits under state of CT Homeowner Property Tax Relief Program.

Also CT General Statures Sec. 7-148ff allows municipalities like New Britain to adopt Blight Ordinances that impose a special assessment on blight properties in the City. The revenue amount generated by the Blight Ordinance must be deposit in a special fund maintained by the City and shall be utilized to cover the costs of the police and fire and health code enforcement efforts on those target City blight properties.

CT Statute 7-148ff is not a revenue generator for property tax relief for all resident taxpayers in the City of New Britain.

  6. Senior Citizens Paper Work:

Rep. Tim O’Brien BUSSWORDS – blight, education, lower taxes, green jobs, slumlords, senior tax relief would bring to NB a tax and spend policy which would hit all taxpayers’ right in our pockets, including senior citizens.

New Britain Social Security homeowners 65 or older in 2010 or who received Social Security disability benefits are eligible for a discount on their property taxes if their total income was less than $30,500 for single applicants or $37,300 for married couples. The City could increase the income limits in 2010 - 2011 to $34,000 for a single person and $40,000 for married couple.

The Applicant Authorized Agent’s Affidavit on Form M-35H states: The applicant or authorized agent deposes that the Grand List Owner statements are true and complete and claims tax relief under provisions of the Connecticut General Statutes. He/she is not receiving State Elderly tax benefits under section 12-129 b, section 12-170 d, in any town.

The penalty for making a false affidavit is the refund of all credits improperly taken and a fine of $500.00 or imprisonment for one year, or both. Your signature signifies that this affidavit has been read or understood.
