Democrat Knucklehead of the Week – Representative, Timothy O’Brien of New Britain
State Rep. Timothy O’Brien, D-New Britain, wins this award for the second time this year. O’Brien was the Democratic candidate for Mayor in New Britain last fall where his campaign highlight was when one of his legislative aides was disciplined for spending state time posting libelous comments about Mayor Tim Stewart. But this week, O’Brien broke into new ground by proposing more taxes on those property owners who have large homes. The Connecticut Mirror collected all of the hair-brained ideas by the House Commissars Friday, and O’Brien’s idea was by far the most confiscatory.
“O'Brien's proposal would levy a state property tax of $10 for every $1,000 of assessed value over $1 million - if the mansion's owner does not already pay state income taxes. For example, if a millionaire with homes in Connecticut and Florida, where there is no state income tax, claims residency there, a big tax bill still will be due back here.”
"The advantage of having a mansion tax is that you can't move a mansion to Florida," O'Brien said, adding that if a millionaire tries to sell a Connecticut mansion, only another millionaire likely could afford it.”
O’Brien actually believes his rhetoric, which is slightly more frightening that the original premise of his proposal.
He'll never be knucklehead of the year. That is a title that will remain with little mac, no matter how hard O'Brien tries to steal his title.
ReplyDeletePerhaps O'Brien and Little Mac can share the title?
ReplyDeleteFrank:
ReplyDeleteO'Brien actually believes in his rantings if (1) they get him more votes and (2) if they hurt only Republicans. He prebably doen't realize that some multi millionaires with big mansions are Democrats and small business owners. CT should be working hard to keep millionaires here and instead should reduce the number of federal and state unfunded mandates and other entitlements to lazy people who know nothing except feeding at the public trough. Also, O'Brien should be working hard to reduce the number of state government employees whose lucrative union contracts keep the state broke. The again what is the total of union contributions to O'Brien from groups like ACORN and SEIU. Forunately, thinking people don't support guys like O'Brien.
Your headline says Timothy O'Brien of New Britain. When did the carpetbagger move out of Manchester?
ReplyDeleteI believe the carpetbagger recently purchased a "home" on South High Street with his wife.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they live there or maybe they are opening a community activist or ACORN office or both.
They can literally walk prospective
voters over to the democratic registrar of voters office and sign them up. To promote small business and create jobs might I suggest they stop off at Subway and buy their voters a sandwich.
The only people who would support a loon like O'Brien would be mush brains who have no thought of their own, and do whatever the Democrats tell them too, even if they are African Americans and are too ignorant to know that the Democratic Party has been oppressing Blacks for over 100 years, while the Republican Party has fought for equal rights for Blacks for the same 100 years (the very reason that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King cited as his reason for being a Republican!)
