In Mr. Blumenthal's case, he didn't do the honorable thing by quitting the race, nor did he give up his day job at the attorney general's office. He didn't commit to atone for his sins by, for example, performing community service at a veterans hospital or donating to an organization that looks after disabled veterans.
And not only did he defiantly call out anyone who would might "impugn my service," when no one was impugning his service, in the Marine Corps Reserve by objecting to his lies, he even refused to apologize for them.
Justin Bernier, the Plainville resident never tires of pointing out that his probable Democratic opponent in the 5th District, incumbent Chris Murphy, has voted with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi 98 percent of the time.
“I don’t believe my own wife 98 percent of the time,” Bernier said.
This situation seems to be moving from a question of distortion to a question of absurdity. The full-length tape doesn't change the fact that Blumenthal admitted that he missstated (lied about, falsified, distorted, conveyed a deliberate false image, told a fantasy, etc. ) about his service record on a number of occasions. It is like just being a little pregnant.

The phony veteran was only a reserve sergeant behind a Washington DC desk, Rob Simmons was a real colonel!
