HARTFORD, Conn. -- Connecticut's highest court ruled Tuesday that Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz is not legally qualified to hold the office of state attorney general.
The court's unanimous decision Tuesday comes just days before state Democrats meet Saturday to endorse a candidate for attorney general and other statewide offices.
After Tuesday's ruling, Bysiewicz said in a written statement, "I am tremendously disappointed with the court's decision overturning Judge Sheldon's ruling and I strongly disagree with the decision both on the eligibility and the constitutionality issue. However, I do respect the rule of law and will abide by it."
Connecticut's Republican Party had appealed a lower court ruling that Bysiewicz has proven she actively practiced law in Connecticut for at least the required 10 years.
The lower court handed down a ruling in her favor two weeks ago.
Bysiewicz's attorneys called the law antiquated and while Bysiewicz admitted she has not been a practicing attorney for 10 years, she said she still qualified for the post.
The GOP maintained that her experience as secretary of the state should not count as practicing law before the Connecticut bar.

Personally, this just proves how our judicial system can make unilateral decisions based on personal preference. Judge Sheldon was/is obviously in the pockets of the democrats. This cost CT taxpayer's having needed to get the correct, legal answer from CT's supreme court.
Shame on Judge Sheldon and shame on Susan Bysiewicz for mis-representing her qualifications. Let's not forget this all started when she was trying to save herself 50 bucks on her state, attorney registration fee. Penny wise and pound foolish I guess. Do we really want her running our AG's office? I think not.
And, now we have "tricky Dicky" Mr. "keeping everyone honest" in this state. Always anti-business. Claims he promotes business and jobs in this state by going after everybody for everything! What a loon and now what a liar.

She wasn't a practicing lawyer before you was a practicing lawyer. Sounds like she follows John Kerry's example.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the Democrats will find a way to demonize the unanimous decision of the Supreme Court.

Are you kidding? Gepsen supporters are jumping with joy including campaign operative, Phil Sherwood.
1-Depends what the word "is" is.
ReplyDelete2-I voted for the war before I voted against it.
3-I served in Vietnam without ever being there.
4-I was never a practicing attorney but have 10 years of experience as one.
FINALLY. Accountability for our career politicians.
Sherwood can't jump up and down yet, the mayor of Vernon is attempting to snatch that nomination from his fellow loon!
ReplyDeleteVernon's Mayor is a republican so he is not looking to snatch the nomination from Jepsen.
ReplyDeleteJust another town that understands that when you want real leadership, you need to turn to a Republican!
