It is a welcomed thought that teachers are being called back. These teachers should never have been laid off to begin with.If Kurtz and her band of misfits don't begin to budgeting with some thought to the economy the better off we will be.
If the teachers union leadership were not so greedy the school district would not have to rely on the government to get bailed out.
What happens next year when the millions are not there or the next year. The district will be in even bigger financial short falls.

WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR THE TV COMMERCIALS AND GLOSSY MAGAZINES TO SELL PARENTS ON KEEPING THEIR CHILDREN IN NEW BRITAIN SCHOOLS?
WHAT ABOUT HER CATERED LUNCH MEETINGS?
How many teacher positions did this waste cost us?
The Los Angeles School District has started using a system of grading teachers based on their student's performance. One of the things LA is using this criteria to determine is merit raises.
Why can't we do that here? It would certainly seem to deal with the problems of all these teachers who won't lift a finger because they are guaranteed a raise whether they do their job or not.
Saavedra should keep tabs on Kurtz's trips to Chicago. She may be lame duck but she can thumb her nose at us locals and spend our money on her frequent trips. She needs to be held accountable and money with held from her salary to pay for those trips.
Even if they had a paid lunch EVERY day - - that would save Maybe one teacher. Lunches are not the problem its k-Kurtz and her dumb ways of handling finances.

Vouchers would only create a more segregated society than we now have.
Kurtz MUST GO NOW before she gives a DEATH blow to the system
Do we know how much this caterer is charging since the BOE refuses to show the council any of their actual books and just uses flowery summary reports of general categories of expenses?
Why are Democrats so determined to prevent parents from having any say over where their children attend school?
Who knows better what is best for your child, you, or Doris Kurtz?
Are they afraid that the schools their union buddies run are so terrible, that no one in their right minds would ever send their children to them unless they continue to be forced to like prisoners?
The reason these unions are getting so desperate is they are dying and becoming at risk of becoming extinct. In 2006 union membership in this country was at an all time low of 12% of the workforce, the latest figure to come out in 2009 was that figure was down to 9%. How low can it go????
U.S. labor unions lost 326,000 members in 2006, the most in three years, leaving only 12 percent of employed workers as union members, the Labor Department said on Thursday.
Does Tim O'Brien's stepson still go to an out of town school while the hypocrite claims to care so ever deeply about the future of New Britain's schools?
Why do Democrats oppose school choice for poor families so strongly?
Private schools consistently outperform public schools so anyone who has access to private schools has more chance to succeed.
Teachers unions adamantly oppose vouchers because most private schools are non-union and as a result there has been tremendous lobbying against the voucher program by these unions. The NEA and the AFT are consistently among the largest political donors in the nation, and they give almost exclusively to Democrats. So the political calculus for Democrats seems to be: screw the needs of the children and do what the unions want so you can get huge donations from these same unions for your campaign (basically selling your votes to the highest bidder).
It amounts to the Democrats selling every child down the river for all that money from the unions.

Some would call this bribery.
