Typical Liberals in New Britain

Frank, I just posted this on the Herald and I thought your readers might want to see it too:

The viscous attack campaign on here (The Herald, not your site) against the mayor is typical of liberal Democrats who have no solutions to offer.

Democrats have no record they can run on. They offer no solutions for the problems they have created with one failed socialist bill after another, so the only thing they can do is launch personal attacks at their opponents to distract from their own dismal failures, because they know their only hope for success is to keep the voters focused away from the disasters they, the Democrats, have created for this country.

If the public in Berlin, Farmington, and New Britain falls for this non-sense from the Democrats, then they deserve the radical they will no doubt end up with as their Senator.

If Tim Stewart is as bad as these left wing loons would have you believe, then how has he been re-elected 4 times as a Republican in a town that is 10 to 1 made up of Democrats?

The message to Berlin & Farmington is clear: the people of New Britain have appreciated the job Tim Stewart has been doing for them, and from the comments posted on here, that has the local Democratic operatives apparently coming unglued. "

" HE was not a good mayor for New Britain.NO ONE SHOULD VOTE FOR HIM!! New Britain was the ONLY ONLY town who didn't have a outside auditor!! the town cousel hired them Stewart fired them the next day!! WHAT WAS HE SO SCARED THEY WOULD FIND???? "

This has to be one of the dumbest comments I've ever seen. Blum Shapiro is not an outside auditor?

Finally, for all the years that Stewart has been in office, Democrats have "owned" a super majority on the Common Council. From 2003 to 2005, there were no Republicans on the Council. What does that tell anyone that has seen, the Police and Fire Pensions are funded over 100%, economic development is better than it has been for years, the city's bond rating agencies have put the City at AA. your property taxes have remained stable. If you want all that to change then, elect to office some socialist/communist/tax and spend/ progressive liberal.

So many references to "corruption" by the commenters; remember who must approve most city business folks, it is The Common Council. Most of the time, nobody shows up to speak at Public Partici[pation at Council meeting. But all the loonies show up to comment, ANONYMOUSLY, full of lies and misinformation. You probably vote, too, full of your erroneous assumptions and accusations. "

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal will conduct a two-week "listening tour" of the state. He plans to crisscross Connecticut, with stops from Groton to Danbury; Stamford to Winsted.

The listening tour will be an opportunity for Blumenthal to travel from town to town, meeting with small business owners, workers, community leaders, veterans, local elected officials, and other residents to listen to their ideas about creating jobs and rebuilding the economy, spokesman Ty Matsdorf said in an email announcing the tour.

Blumenthal plans to visit Main Streets, small businesses, economic development centers, diners, senior centers, and downtown areas in his town to town tour.

As Vice-Chair of the Government Administration and Election Committee , O'Brien worked actively for approval of Connecticut's sweeping 2005 campaign finance legislation that now CT Yankee Institute as signed up as a "friend of the court" at the U.S. Supreme Court hearing in Washington D.C..

The following statement posted on the NB Herald comments should give everyone the simple question to ask themselves:

James Craven wrote on Jan 8, 2011 8:47 PM:
" As I am accustomed to having my name in print, I don’t mind doing it here.

After covering the mayor’s office for a number of years, I was not surprised to read of his entrance into the race for a state senate seat. He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, some prefer coffee (a few arsenic), but the facts are clear in his case, as is his record. Objectively, the city is better off today than it was before he took office. That it still needs a tremendous amount of work also is true.

So, say what you will, but it is hard to find wrong with anyone who puts themselves out there for ridicule and criticism when they do so for public service to the community. In the end, I found him honest, loud, a consummate politician (take that as you will) and enamored with the city he represented.

Whether I would vote for him is not for this forum, but I do wish him luck. "

When the New Britain Herald reporter who covered the mayor's office for many years says the city is better off for having had Tim Stewart as mayor, then he must have done a great job for this city!

As a member of the New Britain Common Council Tim O'Brien worked for the change in the way New Britain City Council members were all elected from an "at-large" system, to one that ensures that every five neighborhood elected 10 Council members by and from their own 5 neighborhood districts and 5 "at-large"...thus the Democrats on the Council were trained to act and vote on issues like rubber-stamps for the Trueworthy and Sherwoog agenda?

Tim O'Brien engineered the 2002 Charter change that removed "minority party representation on the Council. That effectively was the beginning of "one party rule" on the Common Council. Look and see what you now have for Democrat representatives on the Council in NB.

Fortunately, voters in New Britain have chosen Tim Stewart to be Mayor.

The Working Families Party almost changed that last time with their socialist/communist intimidating and badgering methods. By the way, guess who was Tim O'Brien's "dirty tricks" expert in the 2002 election?

Frank, I responding on the Herald to a reader trying to blame the mayor for the businesses that Democrats have driven from our city. Since I shared my original post with your readers, I thought it only appropriate that I share this response with them too:

"We have barely any good retail nor anywhere to take our kids. Movie theaters, ice rinks, bowling alleys, miniature golf are all elsewhere. Nothing has changed. No one is taking advantage of the fact this town has thousands of kids whose parents are currently taking them to our neighboring towns and spending their money there. Pinnacle Heights, Shaws, Walmart, Acme. All still empty:

RESPONSE:

I notice you blame Mayor Stewart for an empty Walmart. Perhaps if elected officals (all Democrats) didn't organize and participate in radical protests in front of Walmart, they wouldn't have packed up and left New Britain. Let us recall that they decided to close the store right after one of these protests, and as I recall, their elected representatives were picketing their store demanding more Puerto Rican managers--at least that was the reasoning offered by one of their spokesmen. Apparently these Democrats didn't understand that as a former taxpaying member of the community, they were elected to represent Walmart too. How can they do that when much of the Demcoratic delegation is marching in front of their constituent's store in a radical protest?

Then you also blame the mayor for an empty Pinnacle Heights. Wasn't it Mayor Stewart who found an investor willing to invest $5 million of his own money redeveloping that site? And wasn't it right after Sherwood, the rising star of the local Democratic Party, insulted that investor in a public meeting with his childish "Where's the Beef" comment that that investor picked up his $5 million and left??

Instead of blaming the mayor for the businesses these Democrats have driven from New Britain, why not try placing the blame where it really belongs? I think you'll find all the responsible parties have a "D" next to their names.

HARTFORD – The Yankee Institute has filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court asking the court to review McComish v. Bennett, an Arizona free speech case challenging the constitutionality of so-called “matching grants” by which taxpayer money is given to certain political candidates.

The case is relevant to Connecticut because both Dan Malloy, a Democrat, and Mike Fedele, a Republican, received such grants worth $1.25 million each for their respective gubernatorial primary campaigns earlier this year through Connecticut’s Citizens Election Program.

The constitutionality of this program has been the subject of litigation in Green Party of Connecticut v. Garfield.
