How about eliminating the salary paid the Common Council members? They do not work any harder than the BOE members who get nothing. Let's see. That would be 15 aldermen X $3,500 annually, totaling $42,500. Am I right? This could pay a low level employee with benefits!
An added benefit would be that some of the alderman or alderwomen would quit. Hurrah!
14 Council members receive $3,500 and Mr. Trueworthy recieives $4,500.$3,500 times 14 equals $49,000 plus Trueworthy the total being $94,000. If I remember correctly it was only the R that gave back 5% last year.
Perhaps if you eliminated the salaries for the council, you would get people who simply want to serve for the good of the city, instead of selfish people looking to get every dime for themselves. Same applies to the legislature.

This is bad math! 49000 plus 4500 does not equal, 94000. Try again.
You are correct on your last sentence. The four Republican Council members gave back 5% of their salaries, each.
Yes, layoffs are on the way but not only for BOE employees; $15 million was cut from the city side of the budget. Some of that $15 million will result in layoffs of many ,many city employees, too.

As I recall, the Democrats refused to give back one red cent, and instead made fun of the Republicans for giving back what they are entitled to--once again that greedy entitlement mentality of Democrats who are simply out to line their pockets with every dime they can get.

Also; Trueworthy gets an additional $1000/yr., a gift from fellow Council Dems that elected him Mayor Pro Tem.
Hermanowski, quietly, has been collecting and additional $1000/yr. (a gift) from his close friend, Dem Registrar, Ed Dzwonkowski to be Assistant Registrar of Voters. No conflict there?

You'll never hear any Council Dems (especially Dave DeFronzo) complain about this; don't forget it involves Democrats. Also DeFronzo is Hermanowski's son.in.law and Catanzaro is Hermanowski's future son.in.law.
Catanzaro realizes he's going to get screwed by his own party and its chief, 'Little Mac."
