Mattabassett bill heads to House - The New Britain Herald (newbritainherald.com)

Yes: New Britain's cost will increase as noted by Alderman Bernacki's questions to Brian Armet, the executive director of the Mattabassett District, at a recent meeting of the City Council. The Bonding cost interest is the cause for the added cost.

  1. This plan is not a good "deal" for any of the towns that comprise the Mattabassett District (MD). I am not convinced that all has been done to cut costs at MD, nor am I convinced of the benefits of a new incinerator. About the only people that will really benefit are the high salaried "big wheels."

As Mr. Armet has stated, MDC in Hartford has enough capacity to burn all the sludge in CT. When asked why MD simply doesn't transport its sludge to MDC, Mr. Armet says it would be too costly. Armet said it costs $2M/year to truck sludge to Hartford - who did that study? Even so, MD could truck sludge to MDC for over 9 years before covering the projected cost of $17M to build a new incinerator.

Poor planning by amateurs. Somehow, someone(s) are benefitting - as someone has already said, follow the money. The plan "stinks." "

  2. Once again, The Herald finds a way to give O'Brien a plug for his work on this plan. Give me a break! Another in-kind contribution by the Herald for O' Brien. OK, Uncle, everyone concedes that the Herald is a liberal rag.

  3. I wonder how the people of Middletown will feel if they find out that a convicted felon is the one in charge of this entire project?
