It’s been about a month since the inauguration ceremony for the new Council and the Mayor. In that time, Mayor O’Brien has ordered a hiring freeze - one had been in place for years -an d then went ahead and hired: a new “communications director” (Sherwood), and pledged to hire 27 new police officers. A grant has come available that will pay the salaries of some of the police candidates while in the training academy. What NB taxpayers have not been told is that taxpayers will pick up the costs for the benefits package for all trainees while in the academy.
A three-member “Task Force” has been formed to audit the city’s budget. I’d like to know how you audit a budget! A Budget is just a line item document that, when approved by the Common Council, shows where each department will be allowed to spend funds. If the Task Force is going to be allowed to determine if departments are spending money “wisely”, then what is/was the purpose of having the Finance Board, the Mayor and the Council scrutinizing the departmental requests and then having the Council give final approval of the budget? The NB Charter specifies how a budget will be prepared, by whom it will be adjusted and then, finally approved. Nothing the task force does can usurp the Charter.
Also, tell me, why do the Mayor and his Communications Director have personal e-mail addresses and not city addresses, e.g., O’Brien’s is,mayor@timobrien.org? Aren’t these two using city computers? Is there a problem with “transparency” here? Watch closely folks!
Finally, as the titular head of the Democratic Party in New Britain, perhaps Mayor O'Brien can get the people elected with him to pay their taxes, namely, Alderman, Rahsheen Brown, Constable, Peter Spano, Constable, James Rathbun!
Lou Salvio
They were both pushing the blight fines of $250 with Alderman Brown saying that these out of town owners must be fined for not keeping their properties up. This coming from and Alderman who is known for being late in paying his own property taxes.
ReplyDeleteThis reverend must learn to turn the other cheek, and maybe he should find his own checkbook while doing so?
Why doesn't the bleeding heart reverend begin with paying his own taxes? I am sure the thousands of dollars that it was recently reported that the reverend owes the city in back taxes could be put to good use!
Maybe we could even redistribute it to these property owners to help them fix their properties? A move like that should make Democrats deliriously happy if we took the thousands of dollars Rha Sheen apparently owes in taxes and redistributed it to people that we feel deserve it more than him, wouldn't it?
Hey Lou - you lost. All your colleagues lost too. New Britain is owned by the Dems. You keep winning the blogs, we will keep winning the elections. Get over it.

To: Mr. or Ms. anonymous. Anybody with whom I served on the Council would never write such a cowardly and unintelligent comment.
If I understand you correctly, you feel the only citizens that should have free speech and comment on the "goings on" of our government are those that win elections. Fortunately for anuses like you, people like me sign our comments so that people like you have someone to berate, anonymously/cowardly.
The Democrats are only winning elections in New Britain because they pander to the poor and the needy. And, they are guilty of wanting to keep the poor and the needy in their cycle of life. Why?,the cycle creates and maintains employment for the democrats something they are unable to do for themselves or create for others.
ReplyDeleteThese persons make me sick...
Hey Lou, the people of New Britain chose communism over freedom, so either accept that we now live in a communist dictatorship or get ready to move to one of the remaining free states of America.
ReplyDeleteHey Lou -- this is a free country -- people can use private email addresses if they choose to. There's no law prohibiting them of doing this. If I were you, I'd watch my mouth and try not to draw any attention to politicians misusing city resources because the top violators of those rules are on your side.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, when talking about free speech, you have every right to spread your hate as much as you would like. I think the anonymous poster you are lashing out against with your poisonous propaganda was simply pointing out that voters don't care about your arguments. New Britain is a working class town -- something you know nothing about. Voters know how badly the economy (thanks to George W Bush and other religious fanatics) is doing and many of them have tax issues as well, so when you try to point your ugly finger at honorable men like Rha-Sheen Brown, you are also calling all these other taxpayers criminals who might be late on their bills. The economy is in disarray right now and if it comes down to paying for food to feed your kids or paying your taxes, you're going to choose food for your children.
Lou, you are out of touch with the working class in New Britain. You sit there on your angry white man perch with all your other ignorant tea bagger friends and with each moment you open your mouth, you alienate more voters. Just as the KKK has been pushed to the ideological fringes of our society despite their free speech, SO WILL YOU!!! We are seeing it happen right now.
