New Britain Promises Tough Time For Absentee Slumlords - Courant.com

Blight official (Mr. Digan?) should have a laughable time measuring the length of uncut (unmowed) grass and weeds that have been matted down by wind and rain. Also, clothing left hanging from "scrubs."

Since no fines may be collected while appeals are pending, scofflaws will push this to the limit.

I think that the City should publish a monthly list of all blighted properties that have not been "cleaned" and a separate list of those that could not be investigated during the working week - the ones Mr. Digan saves for Saturdays!

It looks as though there is no room for improvement whatsoever. Why the owners are holding onto it is beyond comprehension. Mr. Digan will have to work many Saturdays to count the broken windows in the building at the top of Main St. and then keep track of how many days they are not fixed, plus all the other violations and the number of days not fixed, Oh! But then the fines can't be levied until forty five days after the violator(s) have been notified. Is this doe by "registered/certified" mail? And don't forget, Mr. Digan has no boss unless it's our air-headed Mayor. Mr. "Blight" Digan can frequent even more coffee joints than he does now, especially those in New Britain.

What does the city have left, two building inspectors one of which is about to retire? And no boss, what a job. Is Carmela running the department?
