Our Board Of Education's New School Superintendant

Dr. K Cooper's introduction to the Public this evening presented a very impressive vision for our Board of Education moving forward. He was very much concerned with the "Threat of a takeover by the State" of some of our schools within our city when it’s a community and local level matter. He was alluding to the public comments made by our State Representative Robert Sanchez regarding his working with the Governor in having the State take over three city schools. He stated he wants to ensure our maintaining our independence.

He also stated that the graduation rate is a big issue and will be our top priority along with equity within the school system in providing equal resources to all the district's children.

" Finding to do more with less funding."

We have 83 % of the district's faculty with advance degrees which is a significant resource in helping our children achieve.

With his closing remarks he offered "we can do this together in partnership."

  1. It must be stressed to ALL parents that they should be as much involved in their children's education as the schools....check their homework, attend PTA meetings, encourage the student to do his/her very best; NO goofing off in class, etc., etc., etc...............

  2. I am certain that Dr. Cooper knows that having advanced degrees is one thing and knowing what to do with those degrees are another!

Over the years, some of the faculty with the most degrees could not teach. Unfortunately, because of those advanced degrees, they were the highest paid.

I hope that Dr. Cooper plans to "clean house" as soon as possible. A lot of staff under Kurtz never should have been hired. She kept them on rather than admit her mistakes.

  3. Yes good sound advice. That will make up for the fact that our schools are funded thousands of dollars below pupils in the town of Hartford.

If only parents encouraged their kids more...boy, that makes me feel better just saying it. That way I don't feel guilty for living in a city that has abused our kids and a state that doesn't do enough for urban areas.

If parents just loved their kids more...ahhh...I feel better already. But that begs the question, why do parents love their kids less in New Britain than they do in Hartford.

Good thing we have scholars like hothead pina on the case. He'll bully them into learning.

  4. "Pina bullying them into learning".
That is about all Pina is good for.He has done nor will he ever do anything unless he can benefit from it. He is a con artist.

I heard from an aquaintance of his
" it is now time for Puertan Power to take over," The first step is to bring Jack Cochran back as football coach.

  5. If the state took over the schools and got rid of the BOE, it would serve them right!

ALL of the worst BOE members were nominated by the Democratic Town Committee. Isn't it time for that group to develop a decent criteria for candidates who will guide our children's future?

As for Pina, I rest my case.

  6. One big plus for BOE member Carlos Pina, he stood up to Comrade/Asst.Mayor/Working Families Party Lackey, Herr Phil Sherwood !!!

  7. I gyess tou are right about Pin standing up to Sherwood. But I think that was for "show". That is what he does, everything he does is for show.

And if he thinkshe is going to bring Cochran back. He is in a dream world. Too much BAGGAGE and LACK of ethics.

  8. Pina's questions to the locals, while down in Texas, were typical of a Dumb Yankee.

  9. Pina didn't stand up to Sherwood. He kept his mouth shut and covered for him, just like he was ordered to.

  10. Are you saying Pina is the advcance guard of Sherwood ? You must believe that he is "the elephant in the room". Afte I think about hia actions you are probably right. Theywill try nd get control from within, I never trusted PINA.

  11. Everything in Texas is big and so is Dr, Cooper being close to 7 foot tall.

  12. Sherwood must be burning over this appointment simply because it didn't go to a fellow left wing radical. I guess it is a good thing for the city that neither he, nor his little lap dog O'Brien have any authority whatsoever over the superintendent.

  13. Do you suppose that Dr. Cooper is a Texas Republican [gasp!] No wonder that the left wing did not want him.

  14. wait until the new supt meets teachers like my cousin who brags at our family picnics that the principal can kiss her fat ass and she will not do anything he tells he to because she has tenure and is guaranteed her job for life whether the principal lies it or not.

  15. Your cousin is full of you know what. If I were her principal she would do whatr she is told, when and how. She could be terminated for insabporanation. Tell her at your next family picnic,

  16. "I never trusted PINA"

I played with him in Meriden and he was a phony then and a user then,

YOU CAN'T FIRE HER BECAUSE SHE HAS TENURE AND IS GUARANTEED HER JOB FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE, AND IF YOU WERE HER PRINCIPAL, SHE WOULD RUB YOUR NOSE IN THAT FACT EVERY WORK DAY LIKE YOU WERE HER DOG!

  18. You sir ae a DUMB ASS. You evidently don't know the tenure law. It takes more than just "YOUR FIRED". There is counciling, guidance and an extremely long period of observation. Can you imagine what the workplace would if a teacher, because they had tenure, could slap kids around, steal molest students, walk out and not come to work because they did not feel like it.

Come on you MORON be real,

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ever hear of "rubber rooms" where teachers are sent to sit and collect their paychecks for year after year after year because they can't be trusted with kids because they did assault or molest children and still can't legally be fired because they have tenure and are GUARANTEED their job so we, the taxpayers pay them indefinitely to not teach?

    You are the moron.

  20. ...by the way, my cousin routinely tells the principal where to go, and I assure you it isn't Disney World.

  21. "One of the most indelible images that education reformers trotted out in the fight for increased teacher accountability are the so-called "rubber rooms." The holding areas where teachers who aren't up to snuff or have been accused with behavioral offenses, such as sexual harassment, pass the days doing crosswords or napping while still earning their salaries are the perfect illustration of how tough it is to fire ineffective and bad teachers."

Could the insolent person above be one of the teachers that is getting paid not to teach and afraid the public will find out what is really going on at their expense?

  23. EDUCATION REPORTER, The Newspaper of Education Rights:

    Why Bad Teachers Aren't Fired
    Tenure makes this 'mission impossible'

Teachers who drink alcohol before class, or even during class; teachers who deal drugs; teachers who can't read or do basic math - all are more commonplace than many parents realize, and their presence in America's classrooms is nothing new. So why can't these incompetent teachers be fired, as private-sector employees usually are if they drink on the job or prove unfit to perform required duties? The answer is tenure."

Other than layoffs, I'll bet he couldn't even offer one example of when a NB teacher was ever fired!

  25. I wonder how Dr. Cooper will like working for Lord Sherwood?

......I wonder how many teachers will drink or even do drugs before work today or even during the school day, safe in the knowledge that they can't be fired even if they are caught?

  27. Mr Cooper should understand by now, that when the time comes to confront Sherwood and O'Brien, the board leadership has shown no indication that it will be there to back him up.

Why would Dr. Cooper need anyone to back him up against Sherwood or O'Brien any more then he would need their backing against me, you, or Joe Shits the rag man off the street?

O'Brien and Sherwood are absolutely nothing to Dr. Cooper. They have no authority over him, he does not work for them, and It they are absolutely nothing to him.
Whether Mayor Sherwood or his little puppet lackey like it or not, the board of education is not under their control.

  31. All indications are that the B.O.E. will soon be under the control of Sherwood and O'Brien if it isn't already.

  32. If by any chance PINA assumes leadership IF Saavedra retires it would be a disaster to the BOE I attemded the Hispanic meeting with Cooper last night and PINA was up Coopers butt all night. Cooper is smart enough to be careful of PINA because PINA is a user. Take that from a PR that knowd.
