The mayor's office has told the council that it will consider cutting the library, recreation and police budgets unless it can get the additional several million dollars in revenue that the proposed ordinance would generate.
ReplyDeleteSanchez and council member David DeFronzo both said that talks are continuing between council leadership and O'Brien's office, as well as within the divided Democratic caucus. They predicted a compromise will be worked out.
Instead of trying to punish these landlords for owning these properties, why not just collect the taxes that are already owed. Mr. O'Brien might start with getting his city council members and the commissioners he appointed to city boards and commissions to pay up all those delinquent taxes.
That would be a good start!

ReplyDeleteToday's Herald carries a story about one John Tricarico,. a former CCRPA official who is accused of soliciting "kickbacks" from contractors for private use.
ReplyDeleteThe Director of the NB Office of HRA is also a Tricarico.
HRA owes NB over $100K in unpaid property taxes. Is there a familial relationship here?
HRA houses such programs as Head Start, a Federally funded program. Perhaps HUD would like to hear this news.
By the way, State Rep. Robert Sanchez is still on the payroll of the NB Office of HRA.
