  1. Instead of going after the landlords, why is the city not looking to bring in new business and increase the tax base. Why do we continue to give money to HRA when they do not pay there taxes?Rude behavior works both ways, the landlords are trying to comply with cleaning up their units to avoid blight fees, yet did the city inform out of town landlords about their plans. You need to work together not create a greater problem. The city cannot afford to purchase all the abandon properties unless their plan is to go into property management. What happened to Cosco? What happenned to the contractor who had an interest in the Berkowitz building? Mr. Pabon had it right last year when he said increase the mill rate slighty. The city has been controlled by the Democrats for years, when are they going to get it right?

  2. Funny that the Hartford Courant 4th Estate Reporter Mr. Don Stacom omitted, or was not informed, that Chris Calabrese worked as O'Brien's campaign manager.

Don Stacom's statement in favor of the O'Brien plan is about as convincing as O'Brien's wife telling us what a great idea it is... Structural Budget Tax Deficit.

  3. Property owners and landlords, property managers, averages citizens and members of the CPOA and Polonia Business Association spoke out against the proposed ordinance which would have had a devastating effect on property values and quality of life here in our city of New Britain.

Voting to bring forward the resolution for discussion were Alderpersons Trueworthy, Sanchez, Black, and Centeno. Voting “No”, saying in effect that the bill was not even worthy of consideration were Alderpersons Giantonio, Carlozzi, Belinski, Defronzo, and Brown.

  4. Whenever you get your "news" from The Courant, you should remind yourself that it is in bankruptcy, then ask yourself why.

  5. NEW BRITAIN - Don Stacom, Hartford Courant word scriber, reported that one citizen Mr. Calabrese was directing the aldermen to “go after these people,” meaning landlords at the Council meeting.

The bankrupt Courant did not include the relevant information that Mr. Calabrese recently served as Mayor O’Brien’s campaign manager. The Courant article also neglected to inform the public that Mr. Calabrese’s girlfriend works in Mayor O'Brien's office...?

  6. This meeting was what I would call a dumbbell circus.

  7. This administration is out of touch with reality. These revenue proposals are NEVER going to be realized. The City of New Britain will never bill a landlord a 5% commission on their rental income and actually collect the funds. This administration's main goal is to tell the public there will be no tax increases so they can get re-elected in 2013. They pander to the stupidity of their people.

  8. Do you think the stockholders of the Courant understand that it is their extreme left wing reporting that is causing their papers to fail? Conservative newspapers are flourishing, while liberal one sided papers across the country are failing? Do you think they will awaken from their slumber before bankruptcy court?
