Have you ever wondered how you can tell when the “seasons” are changing? I’m not referring to the typical four seasons of certain types of weather in an area, rather, I’m referring to election seasons, municipal, state, congressional, presidential, etc.
1/30/13
We are now in the Municipal reelection season. In November, we will elect a new Mayor, Council and various other representatives for the many offices up for grabs. Precious few should be reelected, especially for the Mayor’s Office and .
Have you noticed also that the tenor of the subjects tends to lean more toward the positive? No more talk of looming deficits, absentee landlord problems to name a couple. Instead, there is talk of new proposals, newspaper ads talking about all the actions to clean up blight like boarding up the Berkowitz Building, no property tax increase, etc. Also, our newly elected U.S. Senator comes to town for a photo op with O’Brien and State Rep., Sanchez. The won’t do any more for NB than they ever did which was zero.
The costs for all this positive talk are being borne by the taxpayers: $100K to hire a PR Firm to promote O’Brien’s anti blight efforts/reelection effort; $Thousands - no bid - given to a firm to board up the Berkowitz Building; $47+K to hire a Community Organizer who is the wife of a city alderman, etc., etc.
Now, probably the most ridiculous one yet was put forth by the Parks Dept., an entertainment complex on part of the Stanley Golf Course (SGC). $Thousands will be spent at taxpayers' expense to hire a firm to study the idea. Taxpayers don’t know yet the full effects of Costco taking a portion of the Red Nine at SGC. Golf Course income will suffer severely through loss of tournament play if the length of the course is shortened, Hartford Rd. traffic will be more adversely affected. No estimate is available as to the costs of creating, operating and maintaining an entertainment complex to say nothing about moving the SGC maintenance building. O’Brien is planning to use money from the sale of SGC land to fund this folly; has the sale been made yet. Would you run your own household budget like this?
The O’Brien mayoralty has been a fraud and that won’t change, evolution doesn’t happen that fast. New Britain voters need to oust O’Brien/Sherwood from office or face a monumental tax increase. There is precious little left to purloin from Water Dept. reserves or other Enterprise Funds. City Hall needs a thorough cleansing.
Lou Salvio, New Britain
This all needs to be put into a brochure and sent to every Democratic voter in the city. They are, for the most part, uninformed voters. Please enlighten them. People do not get newspapers. They do not go on line. They DO pick up their mail, the kind that says, STOP! Please read this!
ReplyDeleteGet the money, There are big donors out there. Do some work! Frank Smith and Lou Salvio cannot do everything>
A BROCHURE IS NOT NEEDED SINCE THE NEW BRITAIN CITY JOURNAL KEEPS THE REIDENTS WELL INFORMED.
ReplyDeletethe only problem is that about 2/3 of the population of NB owns nothing, pays not one thin dime in taxes and has no skin in the game so they couldn't care less how bankrupt the city is so long as their free welfare checks keep on coming.
ReplyDeleteWill there be a brusing primary?
ReplyDeleteLou, you're living in a dream world. A new mayor? Who? O'Brien wins in 2013 by a landslide. The only person who is close to viable is Tim Stewart and he's too much of a coward to run again because he knows he would probably still lose. The council membership will stay the same except for maybe Erin Stewart knocking off a dem. I also predict the tax collector's office will go Democratic. Todd Szabo was a place holder and lost by 20 votes in a recount. The sun has set on Cheryl's career. You think she's going door knocking? HA!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou live in a dreamworld with all your evil little pals on Frank "freakshow" Smith's blog. It's the same 12 people posting over and over again and talking to each other. No one cares what you think Lou, and if they did you would still be on the Council. You're pathetic. Frank will probably reject my comment because he rules this place like Stalin.
And another thing Lou -- when you were on the council why is it that you never had to plow your own driveway or sidewalks? Sounds like preferential treatment from the city to me. If anyone needs to be investigated in this town, it's you Lou.
All Lou Salvio can do is talk garbage he's a has been
ReplyDeleteAnd frank filters this blog anyway so I doubt this will appear but Tim Stewart is a has been too
ReplyDeleteFrank more cowards hiding behind their anonymoity! If you have something to say to me then by all means confront me personally. Using this blog or the herald to spew your personal haterd shows your true character! I'm in the book coward! The only has been in November will be Tim O'Brien and I'll bet my house on it!
ReplyDeleteSigned,
Tim Stewart
To Mr. Anonymous that refers to me and Tim Stewart has beens, at least we are not eunuchs as you sir, must be. Was it a painful surgery?
ReplyDeleteI guess the city has gone totally communist when the few people left who actually work and pay taxes are referred to as a freak show. Once you finish driving all the working taxpayers out of the city and the state, who will be left to pay for all your free stuff?
