I wonder, how many lives have been saved by researchers like Edward Jenner (never saw a virus), Jonas Salk and others that have worked tirelessly to discover effective treatments for life threatening diseases? When these people did their research were they “absolutely sure” that the results would prove fruitful an d benefit humanity? How has the world been changed by the ideas of pioneers like Henry Ford and Thomas Edison? Were they “absolutely sure” their ideas would benefit humanity in general? Please, answer these questions for yourself. People live longer today; every aspect of our lives has been made better by pioneers and chance takers.
Reading the comments in the on line version of the Herald regarding the neighborhood schools proposal and in today’s letter to the Herald by former Mayor, State Senator and now Commissioner Don DeFronzo reminds me that the folly of demanding “absolutes” in life is alive and well.
Where were these people when President Obama promised that nobody that made less than $200 thousand per year would see even a dime increase in their taxes? How do you like that one for an “absolute”? Where were you when Mayor O’Brien told New Britain taxpayers that Community Organizer, Brigitte Brown’s salary would be paid from HUD Funds? How about $100 thousand for a PR Firm, or another $30 thousand for the Pudlin Firm - for what I don’t know? Are taxpayers of New Britain “absolutely sure” that they know how these expenditures will improve life in the city or our city budget?
Yet, our exalted politicians such as Commissioner DeFronzo, Herald bloggers and others want Superintendent of Schools, Dr.Kelt Cooper and the BOE to give them “absolutes” and “clear” figures for how much money will be saved and how that money will be used.
At the risk of being chastised for intoning a deity, GOD HELP US!
Lou Salvio
"Man's capacity for justice makes democracy possible; man's inclination toward injustice makes democracy necessary."--Reinhold Niebuhr
Lou, you are allowed a deity, but to these communists the only deity worthy of their worship is their Messiah--Obama or possibly their Messiah Wannabe-Despot Dan.
ReplyDeleteWith Danny Boy it is a simple case of "monkey see monkey do"
ReplyDeleteLou writings once again make him seem like a loony loudmouth. His letter makes little sense and sounds more like a ranting of a crazy old man than well thought out conservative argument.
ReplyDeleteLibs are a special kind of stupid.
ReplyDeleteIt’s apparent our Elected Public Officials believe there is no End to our Money! That Tax Dollars Grow on Trees and are Theirs for the Taking!
ReplyDeleteIt's not the Superintendent that we don't trust with our money, it's the Lib Dems controlling the School Board.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that they're the ones who gave us Sherwood and O'Brien, and they're the ones who are going to do all they can to get O'Brien re-elected.
How can you possibly ask us to trust them? After all, if it came down to a choice between the Superintendent and their Party, the Lib Dems on the board would throw Mr. Cooper under the bus in a New York minute, and if their party bosses told them to, they would roll the bus over him until he was as flat as the state of Texas.
Are these the people you're asking us to trust?
You can trust them if you want, but don't ask the rest of us to.
We know better.
Anonymous #6:
ReplyDeleteFor 10 years you trusted them (BOE Dems) ; in hiring Cooper, some of these same " Lib Dems" defied John McNamara, Sherwood and O'Brien.
Yes, I think Mr. Salvio is asking you to trust that decision. Would you rather the Lib Dems went with Sherwood's choice of the inexperienced woman from D.C.? And don't forget these Lib Dems risked being ostracized by the DTC.
In the end, it all boiled down to a carefully calculated political decision, on the part of the board's Democratic leadership, to choose Mr. Cooper.
ReplyDeleteIt only did what it thought was in it's own best political interest.
It is a small group of hard core, radical, Lib Dem Politicians who are currently in control of the board, and who have been for over ten years.
We did NOT trust it in the past, and it has given us no reason to trust it now.
At the time that the board was choosing a candidate, it was widely rumored that the board's Leadership did, at first, choose the "inexperienced "woman" (candidate) from D.C" over Mr, Cooper, in total defiance of its' own appointed search committee, AND
ReplyDeletethe wishes of the overwhelming majority of respondents to its' own survey.
It allegedly reversed it's vote only after realizing that the resulting political fallout, for not choosing Mr. Cooper, would have proven to be insurmountable.
The reality is such that we will only know if the rumors were true, or not, if the board's Democratic Leadership decides to reveal the actual facts of what transpired.
Judging upon its' past history of non-disclosure, that's one revelation that is not likely to be forthcoming anytime soon,..if at all.
I trust Mr. Cooper more than the lid Dems. I wonder if Mr. Cooper is still in culture shock, coming from a state where they do what is right, and now having to work for socialists?
