Taxpayers call his Honor a Liar While Waiting, in the Tax Line, to Pay Taxes He Promised not to Raise!

I went to City Hall on Monday to pay the taxes on my house and vehicles. The line of people waiting was unusually long for this time in July. Three or four people said to me, “I don’t understand, O’Brien said he wouldn’t raise our taxes.” I said, “how do you feel about that”? Most were very graphic, using colorful language in their responses - I won’t repeat. I then asked if they understood how their taxes are computed; most did not know. Why am I writing about this?

Most people who were there to pay their taxes and who knew that they had gone up are simply obeying the law and fortunately, can pay. They are content to call the Mayor a liar but don’t understand the process of taxation or the people involved in creating them. Most don’t understand that the Common Council has a huge part to play in preparing a City Budget and, has the final vote - the vote that really counts - in setting the rate at which their taxes will be computed. The problem is, almost 90% of the Council members, 13 out of 15, are Democrats and simply do what O’Brien tells them to do. While they are all nice people, these 13 people - Democrats - simply do not fulfill their obligations to New Britain taxpayers, they are more beholden to the Democratic Party.

Guess what? All these Democrats are running for office again in November, O’Brien and the rest of these do-nothing, Democrat rubber stamps. Plus, they will try to elect Democrats to all 15 seats on the Common Council

Voters of New Britain, you have a choice, vote to keep what you have, a Mayor that lies to you and a Common Council that supports those lies or, a new fresh voice for Mayor supported by an all inclusive group of well educated people from three different political parties that are energetic, anxious and willing to serve all the people of New Britain as New Britain’s Common Council.

In November, vote Erin Stewart for Mayor and her entire Administrative Team for a Healthy New Britain future.

Lou Salvio, New Britain

  1. Lou you are wrong, like Obama says, this is just a phony distraction manufactured by Republicans to discredit his honor. Those taxes did not really increase under O'Brien's watch. It must have been Tim Stewart's fault.

  2. What can we do about it except to tell everyone to vote him out and vote for a 26 year old ? That is not going over too big. I give Erin credit for stepping up to the plate. My understanding is that she did not have to fight off to many people to be the candidate. Older and wiser people threw in the towel!

  3. THE OBAMA RABBIT REGULATIONS ?

Regulations are clogging the arteries of hundreds of commercial enterprises, but nothing says the federal government is meddling more than the story of Missourian Magician Marty Hahne.

Marty Hahne is a magician who makes what little money he can by giving magic shows to children. He went through the process of acquiring a license for his performances, but then was served by the Department of Agriculture with the most bizarre list of regulations to hit the art of prestidigitation in history of these United States.

Mr. Hahne will now be required by the Obama administration to produce a 32-page report as a “disaster plan” for his rabbit. The rabbit must be covered by the plan for calamity, wildfire, landslides, earthquake and intentional attack.

In review; what we have here is a President who labels the Benghazi attack a fake scandal, but is willing to say that a magician’s bunny RABBIT may be attacked by persons unknown and that requires a full report for the Department of Agriculture! By the way, it took seven years for the USDA to create this RABBIT regulations.

  5. To the naysayers who criticize Erin Stewart's age, the City of Torrington elected a 22 year old mayor in 2005 and he has been so successful and popular, that the people of Torrington have re-elected him every 2 years since 2005 because he is still mayor!

At the time of his election in 2005, Ryan Bingham was the youngest mayor ever elected in any town in Connecticut.

Are you referring to the convicted felon the Democrats put in charge of the Mattabassett District and gave him control of $110 million in taxpayer money? I recall Sherwood saying that his felony was in the past and no longer matters.

  7. how about the convicted felon that is already on the council and has a history of being delinquent on his taxes? of course he is a Democrat!

  8. On 8/27/2003 Republican nominee Christoper Polkowski was found guilty of 3 separate counts of 4th degree larceny after steeling about $70,000 worth of property from the state and trying to sell it on EBAY.

This made statewide news and can be found from a simple google and court records search.

I am also told he was hired by former mayor stewart and works at city hall but I have not been able to confirm that rumor.

Did he tell the city he was found guilty when he was hired? Did Ms. Stewart know about his record of steeling property from the state?

Has Alderman Rha Sheen Brown been cleared of his felonious record? How about Mayor O'Brien taking $16 million dollars from Water Dept. Ratepayers funds and putting it in the city's General Fund? Is this not a questionable appropriation since these funds accrue from out of town users of NB water? How about $100K dollars of NB taxpayer money given to the firm of former Malloy aide Ochiogrosso? What did NB get for that? How about $46K dollars given to Alderman Brown's wife Brigitte? For what Purpose of benefit to NB taxpayers? Was that for NB? or for O'Brien's reelection staff?

  10. In the good “old days” it was character, competence, and commitment that mattered in one's professional life. A person could become a lawyer, without gojng to college, by “reading the law” as did Abraham Lincoln and James Byrnes, former member of the U.S. Supreme Court (1941).

  11. If Democrats are going to start focusing on a 10 year old MISDEMEANOR conviction on the Republican ticket, maybe it is time the public were told about the CONVICTED FELON on their ticket?

  12. Pastor Rha-Sheen D. Brown, “Pastor Rez”, was born on December 7, 1975 in Brooklyn, New York to Deborah Brown and Lonnie Owens.
Pastor Rez had to overcome various trials and tribulations throughout his life. His father separated from them and later died in a car accident, when Pastor Rez was only 5 years. His mom resorted to the rough lifestyle of Brooklyn and began to sell drugs, running numbers and running cons. She eventually became a crack cocaine addict.
She and her son became homeless and went from shelter to shelter. Child welfare took Pastor Rez from his mom’s custody when she left him in the shelter by himself. At this time Pastor Rez was 12 years old and going from foster home to foster home.
When everyone thought that Pastor Rez was nothing and they had given up on him, he began to think that the streets would accept him. He began to sell drugs and became very rebellious. Pastor Rez surrounded himself with people who were thieves and murderers.
In 1994, when he was 19 years old, Pastor Rez was arrested on multiple charges that could have had him in jail for the rest of his life.
But God was watching over him the entire time. Pastor Rez’s mother, who at this time was clean and in the Lord, interceded in prayer.
After only 6 months, Pastor Rez was released from jail. Even though Jesus released him, Pastor Rez was a 5% and believed himself to be God. Later Jesus Christ would give him the other 95 % and make him 100% whole, in Jesus Christ.
Pastor Rez had a son out of wedlock before he went to jail. When he was released, he brought him back home with him for a better life. He had another child, this time it was a girl, and he would later marry her mother.
Pastor Rez stayed out of trouble and accepted the Lord in March of 1998. He got ordained as a Youth Minister in 2000. He also married his daughter’s mother, Evangelist Briggitte Brown, that year, and the Lord blended the whole family together.
Pastor Rez devoted and offered up to the Lord, his gift of Rap and poetry. Now a licensed Pastor, Pastor Rez birthed Right Now Ministries, which is an outreach to all people.
In 2003 Pastor Rez’s wife gave birth to their youngest daughter. Pastor Rez, his wife and three children are on a mission for the Lord and His people.

  13. To the last Anonymous commenter:

The short biography of Alderman Brown would have been unnecessary had you given the same consideration to the GOP candidate.
How about back taxes, have those been paid by Rev. Brown?
