I bet you would be surprised to find out how many barber shops in the city are operating with unlicensed barbers. When Waterbury Police did a crackdown, because it is a crime to cut hair without a license, they found dozens of unlicensed shops. When will the New Britain Police do a similar "sting" for the safety of the public? This is something that can be done under existing state law. A separate city ordinance is not needed and amounts to little more than a tax.
12:27 state law already requires a license to cut hair and failure to have one is a crime. We don't need a city ordinance for the police to enforce the state laws that already exist. Practicing as a barber without a license is punishable by 30 days in jail or a $100 fine, or both!
Any person who practices the occupation of a master barber without having obta ined a certificate of registration , or who willfully employs a master barber who does not have such a certificate, or fa lsely pretends to be qualified to practice such occupation, or practices the occupation of a master barber after the expiration of his licens e, or violates any other provision of this chapter, unless a penalty is otherwise specifically prescribed, shall be fined not more than one hundred dollars or imprison ed not more than thirty days or both.

ReplyDeleteHave we really reached the point where you think you need a license to cut hair for "safety"!?!?
ReplyDeleteJesus Christ. Is there NOTHING "Liberals" won't require a license for if they have their way?!?
It's not about safety 12:27, it's about revenue.
