Mayor O'Brien, Drunken With Power Insists He Is In Charge of CCSU Police Investigation

During an incident involving a man reportedly seen with a gun today on the campus of CCSU, Mayor Tim O'Brien showed up at the scene holding a news conference where the mayor told reporters that as the mayor of the city he is in charge of the scene and is actively directing the police response to this incident.

The only problem with this latest misdirected claim of the mayor's is that CCSU has its own police force that doesn't even work for the city and any response by New Britain officers is simply to provide assistance to the organized police force in charge of this facility.  Additionally, there were state troopers, Newington Police and police from several other towns also assisting the CCSUPD in response to this incident.  I guess the mayor believes he is now commanding those departments too, or should those mayors also have responded to the scene to interfere?

I wonder how Chief Jason Powell of the CCSU Police Department, a man with about 25 years of experience with the Hartford Police Dept (retiring at the rank of Captain) and at least 20 years of service as Chief of Police at CCSU likes having to take his direct commands from a man who's only work experience was bagging groceries at Stop & Shop?

I also wonder if tomorrow were not election day, if the mayor would still think he has the authority to direct police responses to emergencies or to call press conferences commenting on police emergencies in someone else's jurisdiction?

  1. Don't I recall Alexander Haig making a fool of himself in a similar fashion right after President Reagan had been shot?

  2. I saw "Trooper One" hovering over the campus. They must have been awaiting O'Brien's permission to land?

  5. I know why O'Brien was there. Maybe they needed some groceries to feed all those cops!

  6. He is the mayor. It was an appropriate response. That is what they are supposed to do in times of crisis. By the way, CCSU police are deputized by the NBPD.

  7. I was watching the TV news, and apparently the news reporters all listened to the mayor saying he was in charge and ran to the New Britain Police station expecting to see the prisoner being brought in, but they were sent away by a New Britain Police officer who said that the CCSU police are in charge and to go to their police station. They also said they called Lt. Vance of the State Police and Lt. Vance confirmed that CCSU Police are in fact in charge. I guess they should have known better than to listen to the clueless mayor.

  9. More false info spread by Democrats: The CCSU Police have their own statutory authority and need nothing from O'Brien or the city to function as a police force:

Sec. 10a-142. (Formerly Sec. 10-144c). Special police forces. (a) There are established special police forces for The University of Connecticut at Storrs and its several campuses, The University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic and Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. The members of each special police force shall have the same duties, responsibilities and authority under sections 7-281, 14-8, 54-1f and 54-33a and title 53a as members of a duly organized local police department. The jurisdiction of said special police forces shall extend to the geographical limits of the property owned or under the control of the above institutions, and to property occupied by The University of Connecticut in the town of Mansfield, except as provided in subsection (b) of section 7-277a.

I GUESS THAT IS WHY THE UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT DIDN'T EVEN SO MUCH AS MENTION O'BRIEN DURING THE OFFICIAL NEWS CONFERENCE NOR WAS HE INVITED TO SPEAK!

  12. Being the Mayor, he should know the correct procedure and not give out false information.

  13. I am sure that once Erin is elected mayor, she will let the professionals handle such incidents since that is what they get paid for.

  14. President Miller named everyone who was important in this response and he somehow left out any mention of Mayor Doofus!

  16. By now, you must have been told that Chief Powell has retired. I suspect that he would have handled all of this well and made us proud.
Still, I was proud of Chris Cervoni. His father, Tony would have been proud.

Thankfully, no one asked our beloved mayor to speak. It was bad enough that he was standing there in a white suit in November. Oh vey!

  17. He did the same thing at the Hospital for Special Care shooting incident last year. The PD had to ask him to leave the premises until the scene was stabilized for fear of his own safety. The guy is a moron with no regard for anything but press for himself. We can and will do better after tomorrow! Vote Row A!!!!!

  18. I loved the part where O'Brien kept trying to get into the camera view behind the president and the president seemed to keep side stepping to the side to once again get O'Brien out of his press conference. Then of course he never even mentioned O'Brien was there as if he was some insignificant cog.

  20. I was laughing at how the president kept side stepping too! OMG, O'Brien looked like an idiot!

How the hell did we end up with this moron!?!

  21. Classic false flag incident yesterday designed to attempt to make O'Brien look good / competent in a time of crisis - straight out of the Malloy playbook. Fitting since he's paying Roy O $100,000 for ideas.

Of course he's so INCOMPETENT he couldn't even make himself look good this pre-fabricated incident.

  22. Sherwood and O'Brien are secretly planning to install one of their political hacks, in the C.C.S.U. police chief spot, just as they did in New Britain, and they're prepared to lower the qualifications to accomplish their plan, just as they did in New Britain.
