Many
speakers, were loaded up to speak fervently for increasing the snap programs,
pointing out the need for food for our cities children. A few residents were concerned that the
municipal funding for the youth and family services were being eliminated by the Mayor’s
budget proposal.
Amazingly,
the 4.88 mill rate increase was not the major concern of the speakers but some
voiced their concerned of the continued need for the school budget to get the
4.4 Million that the school board received last year but our Mayor is standing
to her original decision regarding this matter.
Little
mention that the city may be facing employee layoffs but many of the speakers
were pushing for more free stuff. One
can only be concerned what will happen with many of our working residents, that
are moving out of Connecticut, who will be left to provide the needed free
stuff?

I'm distraught and outraged that taxes are going up so much. We would have been better off if Tim Obrien was sill mayor so that republicans wouldn't get kicked out as soon as we got back in.
ReplyDeleteWhat a buffoon. It is Tim O'Brien's wild spending you are now paying for!
ReplyDeleteTaxpayers don't see it that way
ReplyDeleteI could understand a little bit of a tax increase but this is too much. Even if Tim O'Brien had tried to raise taxes over the last two years I would guess the council would vote it down. Certainly, willie and Jamie would have, so are they not responsible too?. Listen, I'm not blaming Jamie and Willie, but what's clear is my neighbors are blaming the "kid mayor". It upsets me but i can't convince them. I just wish she didn't claim so much that Tim O'Brien raised taxes during her campaign because it now doesn't make her look credible that she is doing it so much more.
ReplyDeleteWhen my Republican mayor was faced with a budget deficit, she did the responsible thing and turned in her town provided car to save the taxpayers money and opted to drive her own personal car. Now that is true leadership!
ReplyDeleteSo what is new britain doing with that car? If they are doing something other than selling it, it's not saving money because the city is still making payments. Also, Tim O'Brien, when he drove that city vehicle, never used city gas and always paid for his gas in the city vehicle. Is erin paying for her own gas too?
