New Britain City Hall Rumors!

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

Rumors have it that the common council Alderman, President Pro-Tempore, Michael Trueworthy in the presence of Former State Representative David Pudlin is no longer welcome at the West Main Street Pub Restaurant for undignified and abusive language used by the Alderman.
Sadly, this is a poor example of what the New Britain Democratic party has selected to represent the city’s taxpayers, who incidentally, has made known his desire to run for the office of mayor.

  2. do you think he was that belligerent to the cop that caught him driving an unregistered car, following too closely and distracted driving back in 2009 as a simple internet search of his name reveals?

  7. This is how the Mayor Pro tem acts in public ? Seems to act like all the other Dem's so this will just go away I'm sure. Where is the outrage from mini DeFronzo call for him to step down so that he can be replaced by Alfred Mayo.

  8. They would only ask a Republican to step down for such ridiculous conduct. Democrats are expected to act like asses.

  11. Trueworthy needs to be removed from his seat on the Council both as an Alderman and as Mayor Pro Tempore. The Council vote to remove him as Mayor Pro Tem and put a Republican that has the trust of Mayor Stewart. Why would anyone who has seen Trueworthy in action for over 10 years believe he is trustworthy and competent to be Mayor? He's completely demented.

  12. Making remarks disparaging of gays and attacking the female mayor, if these stories are true, then it is very disturbing conduct for someone of such high office.

NEW BRITAIN — Democratic Alderman and Mayor Pro Tem Michael Trueworthy harassed and verbally attacked Mayor Erin Stewart in her office last Tuesday morning, according to a police report.

In a written statement, the mayor said Trueworthy appeared to be intoxicated when he burst into her office late Tuesday morning, and eventually had to be escorted out of the building.

The mayor told police Trueworthy - who is the head of the council - "immediately demanded that I get him a drink" after first banging on a hallway office door to get in and see her.

The mayor said she told Trueworthy she did not have any alcohol in her office. Soon after, Stewart said, Trueworthy used profane and insulting language several times toward her.

"Alderman Trueworthy then stated that he would be the city's next mayor, and was going to run against me," the mayor said in her statement. "As Alderman Trueworthy spoke, I noticed that his speech was very slurred and his breath reeked of alchohol.... He continued telling me that he was a better politician than me and was capable of doing a much better job as mayor."

Soon after, Jessica Gerratana, who works for the council and has an office on the second floor of City Hall, entered the mayor's office at the request of John Healey, Stewart's chief of staff.

"Once Gerratana arrived, Alderman Trueworthy stopped personally insulting me, but remained aggressive in nature. Eventually, Greg Gerratana (Jessica's husband) arrived in my office to ensure Alderman Trueworthy was able to get home safely."

In a police statement, New Britain Police Captian Thomas Steck confirmed that friends of Trueworthy were called to the office to escort him out of the office and bring him home. "Trueworthy appeared unsteady on his feet and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was noted emanating from his person," Steck noted.

The mayor declined to press charges.

More details will be available online and in Tuesday's New Britain Herald.
