The Common
Council membership chose to raise the Parking rates for the monthly parkers at
Szczesny and the Badolato garages. It
also included the seniors that park at the Szcesny with a five dollar monthly
increase. Meter Parking on streets
will be raised to $2.00 per hour but to $3.00 per hour for streets adjoining
the court house.
The council
is also proposing to increase fees for parking violations which needs to be
approved by the next council session for overtime parking to $30 and fines for
double parking and parking in bus stop locations to $60.
Parking on
private property will change to a fine of $90.
Only Alderman Michael Trueworthy voted against the proposal recognizing the adverse effect to local businesses.

the meter fees and the parking rates in the garages should stay the same because it only drives away customers to the area businesses, but the parking fines should have been raised years ago. The tiny little fines they charge right now don't even cover the costs of collecting them. It is like the taxes Foley proposes eliminating because they don't even generate enough to cover the cost of the paperwork to collect them.
ReplyDeletedon't forget all that free parking in the center of Newington too!
ReplyDeleteI don't see what New Britain has to offer for shopping even if they offered the parking for free. Now that it is going to be as expensive a hassle as downtown Hartford to park, who would come?
ReplyDeleteHow could I have forgotten Newington? Must be old age!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful West Hartford center with all they have to offer only charges 75 cents per half hour in their parking garages--both of which are brand new structures--so who in their right mind is going to pay $3.00 an hour to come to New Britain, and what would anyone want to come to New Britain for anyway--empty buildings, pan handlers drug addicts and other assorted bums hanging out all over the downtown green?
ReplyDeleteIt has probably been at least 20 years or more since I visited any business in downtown New Britain.
ReplyDeleteoh that's right, no one will need to park anymore because they will all be riding the empty magic bus to downtown.

ReplyDeleteWho in the right mind would want to shop in New Britain, with all the drunks and the crack heads and A Police that would rather look the other way rather than enforcing the law! NB Police carry a sign that reads"; We only respond to complaints if it has something to do with the elite on the West Side of the City!
I am loving all of the high fees for parking, traffic tickets, high taxes, and I hope all the Moron's that were making all the noise with Cosmo and Zerhka, got all they deserve! Now roll it and smoke it LOSERS!
ReplyDeleteFrank, you watch, the first thing Sammy Zherka will do if he makes bail in NY is to come back and keep his promise to New Britain about candidate Erin Stewart that, “If she becomes a politician, she would need to be thrown out.”
ReplyDeleteSammy, we are all praying you get out soon so you can do your thing and get the *&%#@ out of City Hall. She is many times worse than O’Brien. At least O’Brien didn’t incessantly giggle like some brain-damaged simpleton.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD -- HELP US SAMMY!!!!!!
you would have to pay me to come to that crap hole known as Downtown New Britain.
