Local media supports Charter Change for New Britain!

A change to our charter is not needed but what needs to be accomplished is getting the Democratic members of the Common council to adhere to our existing and current Charter mandates by having their guilty members handing in their resignations.

  1. Remember when Catanzaro spoke on and then voted on his own ethics issue which under the charter it mandates that any council member who speaks on or votes on any matter that he has a pecuniary interest in shall be removed from office and ineligible to ever hold the office of alderman again?

The Democrats on the council voted to totally ignore the charter and declared that it was a political issue.

As long as Democrats have the power to vote to simply ignore the charter, then what good does changing the charter do?

  2. We have some bad Politicians from both Parties Republicans and Democrats I am the person that would agree with that statement. As a matter of fact most of them care less about what concerns voters": Issues such as high taxes, crime, homelessness, gangs, noise, traffic, recreation activities for the youth, are often never even mentioned! It is time for both Parties to stop the fighting and the Politics and work to fix some of these problems. ENOUGH!

Please explain how that would help when the Democrats in power have simply voted to ignore the charter as if they are simply voiding it?

  5. what needs to be changed is the ethics code. There is NOTHING in the ethics code to deal with anything other than monetary issues. The ethics portion of the charter needs to be strengthened so that elected official will be held to a higher standard and things such as alderman trueworthy's outburst could be dealt with properly.
