Alderman Louis Salvio Sets City of New Britain Financial Issues Straight!

Mayor Erin Stewart was elected in November of 2013. Prior to that date, she held only one position in city government, a seat on the City Board of Education. Thus, she had no vote on the passing of the 2013-2014 City Budget. Nor did former Mayor Timothy Stewart. From November of 2011 thorough to the Municipal Election of November of 2013, the City’s finances were controlled by the Mayor Tim O’Brien Administration and the 13 Democrat Common Council.

The following list of actions that occurred under the O’Brien Administration and the then Common Council had nothing to do with Mayor’s Erin or Timothy Stewart:
  • reached the limit of the city’s bonded indebtedness
  • produced budgets with overinflated revenues
  • $ hundreds of thousands of dollars given to cronies for “no show/no product jobs or products, e.g.; bloated his office staff
  • waived taxes in perpetuity for the HRA property that, using today’s rates would produce $300,000 annually; and used HRA to pay for phantom city positions
  • gave $ tens of thousands of dollars in raises for department heads, directors (acting or real)
  • dismantled the Dept. of Municipal Development thus creating problems with disposition of HUD funds
  • the phony 2013-2014 was passed gleefully by the then Common Council with the profuse approval of 12 of the13 Council Democrats
The list above represents only a fraction of the financial distress of New Britain produced by the O’Brien Administration. And yet, New Britain Democrat “leaders” continue to play the blame game. Our entire State Legislative Delegation was complicit in this scenario and yet, voters reelected all of them.

Today’s Herald points out what Mayor Stewart has had to do to try to right New Britain’s financial ship. In the meantime, it is the innocent taxpayers that will suffer.

Lou Salvio, Alderman

Brown committing a strong-arm robbery just minutes prior to his killing.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., on Monday, November 25th, 2014, St. Louis County prosecuting attorney Robert McCulloch began his news conference at a courthouse in Clayton, Mo., by expressing his sympathies for Michael Brown’s family, noting that they lost a loved one to violence. On August 9th, Brown had been shot dead by police officer Darren Wilson, presumably, while using justifiable deadly-force in the line of duty as he defended himself from a life-threatening attack by Brown, pursuant to the latter committing a strong-arm robbery just minutes prior to his killing.

Driver's licenses to be issued to immigrants in Connecticut

HARTFORD >> Immigrants living in the state illegally will soon be able to obtain a driver's license under a new program designed to teach the rules of the road to people who likely have been behind the wheel for years anyway. The Department of Motor Vehicles is expecting thousands of immigrants to begin taking the steps needed to obtain a new state-issued driver's license or learning permit.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer: Amnesty Costs 'Horrendous' for States

SCHUMER STEPS UP AS THE HEAD OF THE HILLARY CAUCUS

It sounded odd that Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., the man who perhaps most aggressively represents Wall Street’s interests in the Senate, was advertising a speech in which he would urge the Democratic Party to “embrace government.” The two entities would pretty well have to get naked to get any closer, but there’s always appeal among ideologues for the belief that more ideological purity is the answer to political problems. Schumer, however, seemed a strange messenger. While there is a strong Carneysian relationship between Schumer’s financial-sector constituents and a beefy federal government, Schumer is far closer to his fellow former New York Senator and Goldman-Sachs enthusiast Hillary Clinton than any of the self-styled “populist progressives” of his party. So what gives? It turns out that Schumer was making not an argument for government but for governing, a strong echo of the already emerged themes of Clinton’s campaign. Schumer most notably attacked ObamaCare, not for its goals or provisions, but for the way it was introduced, passed and implemented saying that Democrats “blew the opportunity the American people gave them.”

Reverend Sharpton MIA in Ferguson meeting with fellow preachers.

Watching Fox News regarding the Ferguson religious preachers requesting that the citizens of the town be mindful of their youngsters and their where about during the unfortunate crises.
Amazing the preacher that was missing was Sharpton who personally convicted the police officer, the very same day this youngster who robbed a local store, and was shot by the officer who was attempting to apprehend him.

Sharpton, again

- As is usually the case amid racial unrest, the president is turning to MSNBC host Al Sharpton, a favorite of top Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. Initially skeptical, it was reportedly Jarrett who convinced Sharpton together they could make changes for the country. The controversial television host advised Obama on the Trayvon Martin case, the selection process for the new attorney general, post-Election losses for the Democrats and the latest battle over immigration and executive action. In the initial days following the shooting of Michael Brown, it was said to be Jarrett who reached out to Sharpton to advise how to handle the situation.

Executive Amnesty’s Alinsky-inspired ‘Bishop-gate’

New Britain ranked 3rd most distressed municipality - Central Connecticut Communications: New Britain Herald

HAS THE CPOA BECOME THE ADMINISTRATON’S ADVOCATE?

We went through a Presidency with that individual using his notoriety to become a member of the Board of Education and with my resigning as it’s treasure, forcing an election of new officers, that occurred in the recent past. As A board member, I attempted to make two motions at that meeting but, was cut off by the newly elected Vice president who immediately turned over the microphone over to Mayor Erin Stewart for her presentation. Needless to indicate that my motions were never evaluated by those members in attendance. We have had many effective leaders in the past like former mayors, State Commissioners, but one stands out who was outstanding in scaring both sides of the political spectrum, being Mr. Stanley Nevers, who held elected representatives from both parties accountable for the expenditure of the tax payers dollars. The CPOA took no issue over the sale of the Patton Brook Well because the Mayor was expecting the sale to go through but, Alderman David DeFronzo took a stand against the sale, with the proposal being defeated. The CPOA also has not made any issue over the Alderman Trueworthy’s episode at the Mayor’s office and the adverse anti-gay comments directed at owners of a city establishment. There were other issues the spokesman for the CPOA organization failed to address. Sincerely, Frank Smith, New Britain a CPOA Board Member.

Taxpayers 'Gouged' by Obama's Unnecessary Travel

President Obama's Labor Day 2014 weekend trips for fundraising, personal business, and politicking ran up a tab of $1,539,400 in taxpayer-paid transportation expenses.

That disclosure comes from U.S. Air Force records obtained by Judicial Watch in response to a Freedom of Information Act request filed the day after Labor Day.

Obama began his Labor Day weekend by flying to Westchester, N.Y., on Friday, August 29. While there he attended two fundraisers for the Democratic National Committee.

Later that day he took off for Providence, R.I., for a fundraiser at a private residence, where tickets cost up to $32,400. The event was Obama's ninth fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee this year, Judicial Watch noted.

The trips to Westchester and Providence cost taxpayers $527,192 for transportation alone.

Obama was originally scheduled to fly back to Westchester on Friday night, spend the night there, then return to Washington after attending the wedding of White House chef Sam Kass and MSNBC host Alex Wagner on Saturday. But he changed his plans at the last minute and flew to Washington instead.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said this change allowed Obama to "sleep in his own bed, do a little work tomorrow, spend some time with his family, and then travel back to New York."

Flying to Washington, D.C., instead of Westchester required an additional 1.4 hours spent on Air Force One, which added $295,227 more in taxpayer dollars to bring the total cost of the round trip between New York and D.C. to $358,490.

Obama wrapped up his Labor Day travel by flying to Milwaukee, Wis., on Monday, where he made a campaign speech at Laborfest 2014. This cost taxpayers $653,718.

"This Labor Day back-and-forth shows President Obama seems to confuse Air Force One with Uber," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

"President Obama abuses not only taxpayers with this unnecessary travel, he strains an already overstretched military and a Secret Service that is in crisis and can't even guard the front door of the White House.

"The new Congress could do worse than to reform presidential travel so taxpayers aren't gouged by candidates and campaigns benefiting from the political use of Air Force One."

Editor's Note:

Obama Causes Unfunded for Many states

States Have Unfunded Liabilities of $4.7 Trillion

State-level public pension plans are underfunded by a massive $4.73 trillion this year, according to a new report from State Budget Solutions — an amount equal to more than $15,000 for each American.

"This spells trouble for the millions of baby boomers who are quickly approaching retirement age and expect to collect the pensions promised to them by government officials," writes Joe Luppino-Esposito, author of the "Promises Made, Promises Broken 2014" report.

"State taxpayers who are not government employees will also feel the pinch, which could result in reduced government services as larger and larger portions of the states' budgets must be allocated to cover the public pension shortfall."

California carries the largest unfunded liability, $754 billion, followed by Illinois ($331 billion), New York ($307 billion), Texas ($296 billion), and Ohio ($289 billion).

But these large states have larger numbers of public sector employees, so simply looking at the total figures can be misleading. A better indicator of pension plan health is the funding ratio, which compares assets to liabilities.

By this yardstick, the Illinois pension plan is in worst shape, with a funding ratio of just 22 percent — it has assets of $95 billion, about 22 percent of its liabilities of $426.6 billion. Other states with low ratios are Connecticut (23 percent), Kentucky (24 percent), Alaska (25 percent), and Mississippi (27 percent).

The most well-funded state is Wisconsin, with a funding ratio of 67 percent.

On a per-capita basis, Alaska has an unfunded liability of $40,639 for each resident. Illinois has a liability of $25,740 per person, followed by Ohio ($25,028), Connecticut ($24,080), and New Jersey ($22,491). The lowest figure is in Tennessee, $6,500.

One reason for the huge unfunded liability numbers is that officials rely on overly optimistic returns on the investment of assets, Luppino-Esposito asserts.

Also, states are often guilty of not making the necessary annual contributions to the pension funds.

"State Budget Solutions found that in recent years several states have reduced the annual required contribution to the pension funds, or just skipped the payments altogether," the report notes. "New Jersey is the latest state to pull off this budget gimmick, reducing this year's payment by a whopping $4.2 billion as a way of 'balancing' the state's budget."

Who Cares?

It seems as though the one thing that should have killed Obama’s latest Amnesty Plan should also have killed anything else he has concocted in six usurped years in the office of POTUS is his never-yet-proven-legitimacy to actually hold that office.  It is obvious by now that Americans have given up on proving that Barack Hussein Obama has usurped the highest governmental office in the United States and nobody seems to give a DAMN!

Mayor Stewart's First Year

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

In today’s Herald 14 Alderman praised Our Mayor’s first year in Office with their own way of citing their thoughts but, the fifteenth Alderman David DeFronzo, had nothing but blame by attacking Mayor Erin with the 11 percent tax increase, with the Rock Cats move to Hartford and the ongoing homeless problem downtown.
This first “Salvo” by the Alderman must be his first announcement for his intention to run for mayor.
But, he has a short memory of the fact that he was in office that approved the adverse O’Brien budget with imaginary proposed budget with anticipated income that never materialized.   He also shows his lapse of memory that the Mayor did provide living quarters for our city’s homeless during the winter months.
I recall Her father, a former Mayor, claiming that the homeless do not want to reside anywhere other than under a bridge overpass.
David, you with Aldermen Trueworthy and Platosz voted for the State takeover of the City Finances the following day shows how well your threesome represented our taxpayers’ interest.
Stop picking on Erin’s ability to run the city when we have seen your inability, along with your cohorts, on how to not have our city operated.

Fox News Senior Judicial Analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano writes that President Obama is playing with fire: “The Framers required that every president swear to do his job “faithfully” to serve as a reminder to him that his job requires fidelity to the enforcement of laws with which he may disagree. The American people, Congress and the courts need to know we have a president who will enforce the laws, whether he agrees with them in his heart or not. Without presidential fidelity to the rule of law, we have a king, not a president.”

OBAMA PLEASES LEFT WITH NET NEUTRALITY PUSH

WSJ: “President Barack Obama called on the Federal Communications Commission Monday to declare broadband Internet service a public utility, saying that it is essential to the economy and that the ‘strongest possible rules’ are needed to ensure that the Internet doesn’t become divided into fast and slow lanes. The president called for the FCC to expand its regulatory authority over the industry, a departure from the years of light regulation that the providers say has enabled them to flourish. The endorsement of a stronger regulatory approach contributed to a slide in broadband providers’ shares, raised new questions about a proposed merger between Comcast Corp. and Time Warner Cable Inc. and further hardened the political lines on ‘net neutrality’—the principle that all Internet traffic should be treated equally.”

President Obama’s White House luncheon today with more than a dozen members of Congress is not a working lunch. It’s a photo-op designed to make newly empowered GOP leaders Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell part of a herd. Rather than a summit – a meeting to facilitate negotiations among equals – this is the head of state holding court for the benefit of the cameras. The question of how the earthquake on Tuesday has changed Washington won’t be seen in gritted grins over tureens of mushroom soup but rather in how Obama and outgoing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid approach the final 54 days of Democratic control of the Senate. The initial indications suggest conciliation will not be on the menu.

OBAMA STILL UNMOVED AFTER ‘ASS-WHUPPIN’

President Obama
was determined not to provide a descriptor for his party’s midterm election rout this week, using verbal gymnastics worthy of Alison Lundergan Grimes to deny headline writers an adjective akin to 2010’s “shellacking” or 2006’s “thumping.” So West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin did the job for him, describing 2014’s bloodbath as a “real ass-whuppin’.” In a perfunctory press conference held to face an almost taunting press corps, Obama tried to invalidate the outcome. The president suggested that there was no clear message from voters beyond, inexplicably, a perceived desire for his agenda to be implemented. More pointedly, Obama said: “To two-thirds of voters that chose not to participate in the process yesterday, I hear you, too.” What were they saying? The president believes that they were also urging his agenda enacted. Funny how that works.
