Senator LeBeau's attempt to create 60 full time legislature that would be dominated by the democratic party would in effect make the Governor's roll pointless with no veto power.
All the editorials I have read on the subject points out the editors have missed that very point that the Governor would be just a figure image because the democratic control legislature would override whatever he or she would present.

The US census predicts that CT will have a population of 3,441,843 by 2010. If we were to reduce the representatives to 60 as Mr. Lebeau suggest that means each representative would be representing 57,364 people each.
The population by county as of 1997is:
Fairfield 833,315, New Haven 792,200,Hartford 825,141, New London 252,958, Litchfield 181,082 Tolland 131,023, Middlesex 149,010 Windham 105,129
Does this mean Windham County will only have 2 reps. while Hartford County gets 14?
The gerrymandering to make this work will be staggering.
Think of the power that will be shifted from rural areas to urban areas. Could a representative elected by folks in a city like New Britain understand the issues of a citizen who is living Simsbury?
Would New Britain (70,948) have 1 representative. While Plainville (16,779, Newington (28,156), Berlin (17,061) would have to share 1 representative?
How do towns like Union (662) fit into this scheme?
Since citizens in wealthy Towns like New Cannon who will pay the majority of taxes due to the Tax the rich mentality get more representation than say citizens in Hartford who are near the bottom of per capita income?
After looking at the statistics Mr. Lebeau's proposal is unworkable.
If it were to pass it would only create further class warfare.
But for a socialist that may be the objective.
