Allegations fly after mayor’s veto of appointments - The New Britain Herald (newbritainherald.com)

  1. How can the Mayor be anti-Italian when he is married to a Badolato???

Could it be, he is just ANTI-FELON?

  2. Sherwood is quoted as saying that the council will just ram this appointment through at the next meeting of the council, does Sherwood plan to ask Candelori to pay up his delinquent property taxes, or does the "czar of ethics" support putting people who fail to pay their own taxes in charge of millions of dollars of the taxes the rest of us must pay?

  3. After reading this so-called news story published in the Herald, the slant in favor of the Democrats is so extreme, that I am left with the impression that if this same reporter were around years ago to report on Candelori's involvement with Colonial Realty, the story would leave you with the impression that it was those investor's fault that they lost their life savings in the Colonial Realty scandal, and that Sisti, Googel, Candelori and the others were actually the victims, especially if the investors that lost their money were pesky Republicans.

  4. Typical Democrats--it's everyone's fault but their own.

  5. Maybe the City of New Britain should poll the Mayors of Middletown and Berlin about Mr. Candelori's appointment as director
of the Mattabassett District. I believe they are both Italian so maybe we need their input on this particular Italian person. Lou Salvio is Italian and isn't voting
to appoint Mr. Candelori. We could hold a public referendum just for
resident voters of Italian decent to see where most Italian's stand on having crooks in charge of their
tax dollars. This way those of us who are not Italian can't be charged with Ethnic discrimination
for rejecting putting someone in charge of millions of dollars with such a checkered past and current
    legal troubles for ponzi activities.

  6. I noticed that the Herald couldn't have worked harder to bury this story, so deep that most people won't even see it. This is not the first time I have noticed their liberal bias whereby they post attacks against the mayor as headlines on the front page, but when there is negative information about a Democrat, they conveniently bury it among the shopping news, and then have the audacity to wonder why they are losing so many readers.

  7. Mayor Stewart did the right thing by vetoing this appointment, and if the Democrats persist in overriding this veto to again appoint their crony to Mattabassett, the mayor should follow the charter by starting proceedings to remove any felon from office simply for being a convicted felon as spelled out in the charter.
The Charter, remember that document Sherwood--Czar of ethics, it allows the mayor to remove felons from office to protect the public interest. You remember the public, Czar Sherwood don't you, the people YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE REPRESENTING????

  8. A perfect example of how biased the Herald is can be seen by reading today's Courant.

Congressman Murphy outraged his constituents when he voted for Pelosi's socialized medicine bill, a measure the majority of his constituents were strongly against, but Murphy chose to side with special interest groups, many of whom donate large sums of money to his campaign, over the wishes of his constituents.

The Courant has the story about how Murphy is facing huge opposition due to his support for socialism as the headlines on their front page today, while the Herald has not a peep about it, most likely because they support his socialist agenda.

  9. The question that the Democratic Party must concern themselves with is the question of ethnic racism and retribution as charged by Dr. William Candelori in the New Britain Herald written by James Craven 11-19-09.

The real question for the czar of ethics is as follows: Are you going to continue to support this felon to handle public funds? I agree that the other two members of the district, at least deserve a revue by your council sub-committee along with the other two that were proposed by Alderman Salvio, at the last meeting of the Council, but what legitimate argument can you make for allowing Candelori to have control over millions in taxpayer funds, especially when he is on record as not having paid his own taxes?

  10. Lou Salvio says...

Imagine, I am anti Italian! That's like saying that Larry Hermanowski is anti Polish! Imagine that Candelori is saying that the Mayor may be angry for Candelori's not contributing to the Mayor's Campaign. It will be interesting to pore over the lists of contributions made to the campaigns of Democratic Council members by Candelori, especially those of Catanzaro and other Dem Council office holders. Did Candelori attempt to buy a reappointment?

And, self proclaimed Ethics Czar has already predicted that the Council Democrats will override the Mayor's veto.

As for Candelori himself? His quoted comments reported by Jim Craven are simply those of a very angry man who feels wronged by the actions of another. The comments from Candelori are typical of what Council Democrats have done in the past: blame, ridicule, name-call, accuse, threaten, place the race/ethnicity charge, etc. Don't do any personal introspection in front of a mirror!

Yet, Dem Council leaders have such confidence in their 11 - 4 voting majority that Phil Sherwood predicts with certainty that the Mayor's veto will be overridden. Is this what NB taxpaers want to see?

Voters of New Britain, take NOTICE!

The Herald shut down releasing any comments on the story at 10:39 a.m.

    Say what?

THE HERALD CLEARLY DOES NOT WANT ANYONE POSTING ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT A DEMOCRAT BECAUSE OF THEIR OWN LEFT WING AGENDA.

WHAT A DISGRACE TO SO-CALLED JOURNALISM!

  13. Phil Sherwood a card carrying CCAG and WFP member can't see the insanity of this appointment?!?! The self proclaimed activist? The rising star of the WFP? The one who has chosen to protect us from ourselves cannot understand that an admitted tax fraud should not be running multimillion dollar public budget?

Alderman Sherwood you are truly living up to your moniker.

  14. I submit a resolution to any council member who wants to put their name on it:

The City of New Britain is to purchase the former Sisti Mansion in Farmington, currently owned by rap star "50Cent" , and rent it out to Acorn and Working Family parties to plan all future endeavors. Dr. Candelori can be appointed property manager, and Phil Sherwood in charge of any rental agreements.

  15. Frank:

Democrats would do well if they just let this veto stand. Chances are good that there are other facts that may come to light that could end up making situations worse.

Like the Kenny Rogers song says, ..."you gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, know when to run..."

  16. Good point, for example, maybe some details regarding the real estate foreclosure in Groton and who the partners involved in that deal are or the former Foxwoods Chairman's claims that he was given a so-called loan as a bribe will emerge and shed more light, especially considering the cast of characters that the Day already reported on!

  17. I keep hearing the same commercial on the radio whereby the narrator starts out by saying that bankruptcy is forever...

...Isn't a felony conviction also forever?

  18. The Mattabassett board has called a special meeting for Tuesday night to discuss the reappointment of three New Britain members.

This is a FIRST. Sounds like the wagons are circling. If so, why? These appointments serve for free.
    Right?

Hopefully they will also provide the financial data New Britain has been asking for for the last several months.

Do the Mattabassett appointments really serve without compensation? Campensation comes in many forms, kickbacks, lunches and dinners, travel reimbursements?
Find out. Also, who are the Council liaisons to Mattabassett? Ring a bell?
