Dr Candelor's charges that the Mayor's veto is discrimitory since it applied to three Italians in his quote that appeared in the Herald on 11-19 09 is simply hog wash.

EVERYBODY KNOWS the MAYOR is MARRIED TO AN ITALIAN SO WHERE is THE so called DISCRIMINATION?

  1. Isn't Salvio Italian? He's probably not from the right town.

So the same democrat tune is being played, the R's say up the D's say down, the R's say right the D's say left, etc.

It is truly amazing that the czar of ethics is so quick to judge.

  2. The veto of the Mayor to appoint Mr. Candelori has nothing to do with political retributon or ethnic racism. The decision has to do with Mr. Candelori past behavior for which he is responsible. The Mayor and the Council must set a good examlpe to the residents of New Britain. Therefore the bad decisions Mr. Candelori made can not be rewarded.I would not want him to make any financial decision for me.

  3. Following this twisted logic, Stewart must hate half of his children because they are half Italian?

It is amazing how far Democrats will go to blame others for their own misdeeds!!!!

  4. To follow the argument of this whacked out liberal, the millions of dollars that Colonial Realty swindled from people was the fault of George Bush, even though Bill Clinton was President at the time.

  5. Apparantly Mr. Candelori didn't/doesn't know about the Mayor's wife's being Italian; also, it's my understanding Lou Salvio and Mayor Stewart appear to be good friends.
    So, where's the beef?

  6. Candelori should do the honorable thing and withdraw. He has caused New Britain enough embarrassment. And Sherwood, self-imposed ethics king, should be leading the charge.

  7. People keep referring to Candelori's conviction for federal tax evasion as if it was that he simply was late filing a return or something.

According to the New York Times article, Candelori pled guilty to tax evasion for failing to report hundreds of thousands of dollars in income. Does this sound like someone who should be managing millions of our taxpayer dollars, especially when he reportedly has failed to pay his own property taxes in New Britain?

We, the people, need to thank the mayor for protecting our financial interests in this matter!

  9. Isn't Tax Evasion the same way that the Feds finally got Al Capone?

Wasn't George Bush, Sr. president at the time, not Bill Clinton?

  11. Do the council members who support Candelori's appointment understand the financial effect this ponzi scheme had on New Britain and beyond? I was just out of high school but it certainly still has
top of mind awareness especially this past year with the "Madoff" fiasco.

Not only did investors lose their money. (I guess the dem's obviously don't give a hoot about people who are well off enough to invest). As I recall, the domino effect it had rolled all the way down to the painter and lawn guy. Investors, retirees, businesses, shop owners, all took a hit as did
their employees, and suppliers and vendors. Everybody from every walk of life left hanging, ripped off. And Colonial, they set their famlies up and moved their stolen money to Florida where they continue to live lavishly. One of my friend's fathers lost his savings and when he couldn't afford his Old Lyme cottage anymore
one of the partners offered to buy his cottage cash! What a slap in the face. And this appointment is a slap in the face too! Outrageous. Most of these democratic council members are fathers and mothers would they teach their children it's ok to steal? Because thats exactly what this council is saying. "It's ok to steal" you get the stamp of approval here in New Britain. How shameful.

  12. The Democrats obviously don't care because the people who lost their life savings are the "haves" that their party believes deserve to be punished for having more than others have, so their party philosophy supports rewarding someone who can take from the rich, since they deserve to be punished for having more than someone else. (communism)

Many of the victims of the Colonial Realty scheme went broke and lost everything they owned. I remember countless stories of elderly people who had invested their retirement funds and lost everything they had in the scandal.

Are those people deserving of punishment too, Mr. Sherwood, Czar of Ethics?????

All this, and the only article to be found in the new britain herald was buried deeper inside the paper than the classifieds. What a disgusting excuse for a newspaper. You might as well call it the Democratic Herald. Makes me ashamed that I had a Herald paper route once upon a time.

  15. Based on the founding members of the Colonial Realty Corp., looks like Candelori has always been of the wrong nationality.

  16. Italians here in New Britain should be outraged over such a ridiculous claim by Candelori claiming that the mayor vetoed his appointment because Candelori is Italian, and not because of his questionable associations and criminal past (he himself pled guilty) which was thoroughly explained in previous articles on this blog.

Even if the mayor were not married to an Italian who is a relative of the great Dom Badolato, anyone should be able to see this claim of racial and ethnic discrimination for the B.S. that it clearly is!

  17. FRANK:

Please tell the people of New Britain to watch the Democrats of the Council to see how they vote on this issue. Hermanowski, Black, Cruz, Collins, Carlozzi, Catanzaro, Trueworthy, Sherwood, Platosz, Eva M., Centeno. Let's see how the vote on keeping a know felon in an office that controls millions of dollkars in your taxes.

  18. I think I saw this same type of appointment in an episode of the Sopranos!

  19. Phony Phil stands by this appointment, but of course he is not old enough to have lived through the years of scandal, listening to all the news stories about all the people who were swindled out of their life savings by this Colonial Realty scam. I guess those victims don't matter as much as his pushing his partisan agenda!

    A reminder:

Mr. Candelori is a former partner in Colonial Realty--described in a recent article in The Day of New London as: Connecticut's own Madoff-style Ponzi scheme in which local investors lost hundreds of millions of dollars (Loan bribe, or defense strategy, by David Collins, 4/12/2009).
