MAYOR STEWART TO WAIVE DOWNTOWN PARKING METER FEES DURING HOLIDAY SHOPPING SEASON
New Britain Mayor Timothy Stewart announced today that he will once again waive parking meter fees in order to provide up to two hours of free parking in the downtown shopping district for the holiday shopping season.
“We want to make every effort to encourage shoppers to come to downtown New Britain during the holiday season,” Mayor Stewart said today. “To make it even more attractive for shoppers, I am announcing today that we will waive parking meter fees effective Friday December 18th through Sunday December 27th. Shoppers will be able to park for free for up to two hours at specific locations during this period. The two hour limit will be strictly enforced.”
Parking meters that will be affected will include all meters on Main Street, West Main Street, Arch Street, and in the Szczesny garage and the Badolato parking garage next to City Hall.
It should be noted that the courthouse parking garage and the parking garage at the Hospital of Central Connecticut will still require parking fees to be paid. Also, handicapped parking rules will be strictly enforced during this free parking period to ensure that persons with disabilities will have full access to parking in the downtown district.
“There are a number of good places to shop in downtown New Britain,” Stewart continued. “We continue to work closely with the Downtown District and the Chamber of Commerce to encourage as many people as possible to stay here in New Britain to do their holiday shopping.
“Shopping in downtown New Britain will enable shoppers to avoid the tremendous crowds at area shopping malls and parking will be free and convenient. I wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season and urge them to make this shopping season a successful one for our local businesses,” Mayor Stewart concluded.
A Christmas gift from the Mayor for shoppers and business owners alike!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the parking officers could check handicapped parking spaces in the downtown area shopping centers on these days, since they are not needed to check the meters.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a Christmas present to handicapped people to have some of these spaces available to those who need it, to be able to do their Christmas shopping.
That's great for the downtown Merchants, show that holiday spirit. MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone. JSJ
ReplyDeleteThe meter readers should check the handicapped parking spaces all year round, not just on city streets, but also in shopping center parking lots...there are many people using the spaces without a permit..hundreds of dollars could be collected in fines every year.
