The other day we received a mailer from Tim O’Brien touting a 27% increase in state educational funding since 2003 for City of New Britain.
That seemed impressive until we compared New Britain (Ranked 166 out of 169 towns by the State Department of Education) to four other similarly poor school districts in state of Connecticut:
The average Educational Grants increase for the poorest districts in the state was 40.6%

ReplyDeleteThat seemed impressive until we compared New Britain (Ranked 166 out of 169 towns by the State Department of Education) to four other similarly poor school districts in state of Connecticut:
The average Educational Grants increase for the poorest districts in the state was 40.6%
Bridgeport increased 31.65%
Hartford increased 64%
New Britain increased 26.3%
New Haven increased 37.2%
New London increased 52%
Didn't O'Brien explain that away by saying that those towns needed the help more then New Britain did?
ReplyDeleteIn other words, he was saying that instead of fighting for New Britain, he was agreeing with the money going elsewhere!
Who is he supposed to be representing???
