Carillo won’t ask for ballot reprint, will save taxpayers $3,000

NEW BRITAIN - Republican candidate for state representative Cristopher Carillo today announced that he will not ask for a correction to printed ballots that includes a misspelling of his name, even though current law allows for such corrective action.
Official ballots already prepared by election officials inadvertently misspelled the candidate’s first name “Christopher.” Despite being allowed to have the ballots reprinted to correctly spell his name, Carillo declined, noting that the district’s already over-burdened taxpayers do not need to incur an additional expenditure of approximately $3,000.
“Throughout my campaign, I have talked to thousands of residents fed up with the high taxes and cost of living in the district,” said Carillo. “Unlike our current state representative, I will back up my platform of lower taxes and spending, and not ask that the ballots be reprinted. Judging by the overwhelmingly positive response I’ve gotten from going door-to-door, my supporters will know where to find my name on the ballot on Nov. 2”
Carillo is running against 4-term incumbent Timothy O’Brien in the 24th District, which includes parts of New Britain and Newington.

  1. It was a good call to save that money. Especially since Cris already used public dollars to run his campaign and send negative mail.

I will skipping the line for state representative on the ballot this year. I can't bring my self to vote for Tim O but my wife and I could not be any more disappointed Mr. Carillo's negative mailings to our house. I will sit that one out.

  3. I'm curious "anonymous" what was so negative in the mailer that you took offense to? Have you tried calling Cris Carillo to question him on his mailer and ask why he chose the words he did? If all it takes is one negative mailer to make you turn away from the polls I'm surprised you vote for anyone as I have yet to see an election beyond the municipal without candidates being attacked on their records.

  4. Sometimes the truth hurts, but the people need to be made aware of the dangers of letting a radical like O'Brien continue to represent New Britain.

Cris did a good thing by telling the truth about O'Brien, especially since O'Brien is known for hiding from his own voting record.

  5. Probably talking about the Cheshire murders in the mailer.
Personally, I have been waiting to see who used that item to pull voters and was pretty shocked it came from our 24th district rep race. I like Chris but was not happy with this campaign tactic.
That crime has brought this state and our country to it's knees with grief and I for one did not want it used to get votes.
If the RTC is assisting with the publications, that mailer should have been screened out. Either that or the RTC continues to take
    a hands off approach.

  6. regardless of your "shock", the death penalty is an important issue, especially now because of that case. People should know where the candidates stand on these issues.

Obviously this guy won't be voting for Malloy, because even the Courant recently concluded that Foley's mailer about massive tax increases under Malloy's leadership was true. The article concluded that taxes did increase significantly when Malloy was Mayor, and at best, Malloy was "fiscally irresponsible."

  8. Alot of negative feedback when someone is honest about a political mailer such as the one that uses the Petit Murders to push the voter.

We all know which party supports the death penalty and we all also know which liberal bunch of bafoons will ignore the people's wishes on this issue. The democrats always ignore the will of the people and override democracy with what they think is right for us. That is socialism on the edge of communism.

So, the mailer wasn't needed and was in poor taste. Opinion, still legal in this country.
