Democrats never managed to override Stewart even though they held a super-majority on the New Britain Council.

Mayor Elect Tim O'Brien vowed that ordinary residents, businesses, labor unions and neighborhood associations will all get a greater voice in how Nw Britain City Government is run, and that his administration will work to foster Good-paying jobs - Good paying jobs?
The city of NB is in the midst of an abrupt transition from the conservative Stewart to the liberal O'Brien.
Later this month, the new mayor is expected to announce changes in some boards and commissions that had been filled with GOP appointees.
O'Brien stated that, "Each of us knows times are tough. Cities like New Britain have been hit hardest by the economic downtown," he said. "Across the country, we've seen services scaled back, city employees furloughed, concessions granted. As for quality of life, it's not what it used to be, but quality schools and education spending will be a priority in the O'Brien Administration."
New Britain is in transition from a conservative mayor to an ultra liberal.... oh man, hang on to your dusty wallets, this is going to be quite the financial ride with Timmy "handout" O'Brien.
Boards and Commissions require minority party representation. Let's see how this new administration handles the appointment of Republicans in decision making positions.
Mayor Stewart AND the veto proof majority democrats funded local education at the level provided by state rep O'Brien's and the super majority democrat funding level - FLAT for four years.
The state, with the "fighting for education Tim O'Brien" kept the education spending cap on New Britain for several years costing New Britain children over $10M per year.
Blame Stewart all you want. Look in the mirror super majority democrats.
Didn't Geragosian support giving a larger piece of the pie to several other Connecticut cities instead of New Britain because he said those cities needed the money more than New Britain did?
