CPOA announces plans for debate

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sept 11, 2013, New Britain, CT - The Citizen’s Property Owner’s Association of New Britain has announced their plans to hold it’s first ever debate for Mayoral candidates Timothy O’Brien and Erin Stewart on Sunday, October 20th. “Our organization is dedicated to educating the public on issues of concern among property owners and taxpayers in the city of New Britain” said Catherine Cheney, the organization’s Events Chair. “A debate is the perfect way to allow both candidates to speak directly to the public.”

Cheney says the CPOA has already secured a location and a date for the event. “All we are waiting on is confirmation from both candidate’s campaigns. Invitations were sent out earlier this week.” The proposed debate would be in two parts. The first would be a traditional debate where candidates will answer moderated questions and the second would be more of a town hall style meeting, with candidates answering audience questions.

“We have a bipartisan panel drafting questions for the moderated debate session and no candidates for office who are members of the CPOA are involved in drafting or approving those questions.” Cheney said. “Our goal is the have a fair and open debate.

When asked how this debate will contrast with the League of Women Voter’s Debate, Cheney cited a few differences. “Our debate will be fully open to all broadcast media. We also will allow candidate campaigns to record and use the debate footage, with a few restrictions. Additionally, our combination of traditional moderated debate and town hall questioning means the candidates will have to respond directly to actual voters and think on their feet.”

  1. Will there be any questions about bagging groceries IE don't put the canned goods on top of the eggs or wipe the sweat off your palms before handling the food the customer is going to consume?

  2. I guarantee he will not attend and the Herald will not publish this.

  3. He obviously fails the sweaty palm test - his palms feel like the palms of a pervert.

    Ugh....just makes my skin crawl.

  4. Imagine eating food that he bagged for you?

  5. Fair question. A debate hosted by the CPOA which took out ads against OBrien chaired by a close friend of the Stewarts who was walking around with a vote Stewart sticker at Oktoberfest? Doesn't seem too bipartisan on it's face.

  6. Does anyone believe that The Evil Phil Sherwood will allow him to participate?

  7. Not unless Sherwood could be there as puppet master to pull O'Brien's strings and answer the questions for him. If it does go forward, make sure you search O'Brien for hidden ear pieces that his cronies can use to give him the answers to the questions that he would no doubt be totally clueless about answering! You know the real difficult ones like "state your name."

  8. Ahhh.so someone was trolling me at Oktoberfest, lol. I will be chairing the event (if it happens) but will not be moderating, nor will I be crafting the questions. In this small town, there are very few involved people who do not have an opinion one way or the other. The LWV/Herald debate is loaded with partisans as well. The CPOA asked to co-sponsor that and we were denied.

The CPOA is a TAXPAYER watchdog group...if we feel TAXPAYERS best interests are not being served, we will speak up.

  9. I guess you must have a dwindling membership because more than half the population pays no taxes and lives completely free off the backs of those who do pay for their free ride.
